Kuhn Rikon Colori Art Chef's and Paring Knife, Blue Polka Dot

Kuhn Rikon Colori Art Chef's and Paring Knife, Blue Polka DotThese are the best knives I've ever none. I highly recommend them. They stay sharp and are beautiful as well.

I bought this set to keep in our camping bin. I love that they are sharp, easy to see, and have the safety covers. They were such a hit on our recent camping trip that we had people from other campsites asking us where we bought them. Great set--you will not be disappointed!

These are great knives. I am the cutter and chopper in the kitchen and these are very sharp and remain sharp. However, do not attempt to juggle with these knives.

E3000%2D7S%2D Meridian Elite 7 Piece Initiation Block SetWe've had a "separates" set of these knives for 3 years and they are fantastic. I know there are several quality brands of knives, but I bought these in a specialty knife shop based on balance and how they felt in my hand. Fantastic quality, any this is my go-to gift for friends who don't already have a quality set of knives.

when it comes to engineering the germans have always come out on top

so when when choosing a knife set it came down to henckle, wusthof and

messermeister all worthy contenders steeped in a rich tradition of forged

steel knife making since the early 1800's. what ultimately impressed me

with messermeister was that they did not compromise their reputation by

outsourcing their product to international knife making markets outside

of germany in order to gain popularity.

Oneida Flatware Apollonia 5 Piece Serving Set

Oneida Flatware Apollonia 5 Piece Serving SetThe flatware is exactly as pictured feels solid in your hand, looks beautiful, and holds it shine through many washings already. We are very happy

with it, and would definitely order from this company again. The packaging was careful, and everything came a few days early, in great condition.

Wonderful pieces to complete the set of Apollonia flatware which I purchased for my grand daughter's

bridal shower. And the price was right. Thank you Amazon!

I like the Apollonia pattern, however, I feel the serving set falls short. The fork and spoon are fine, but the slotted spoon has VERY small slots, making it less functional, and the butter knife is small and a little awkward. The sugar spoon is okay, nothing special. I wish there was a small ladle with this set.

BergHOFF Neo Boning Knife, 5-Inch Black

BergHOFF Neo Boning Knife, 5-Inch BlackI like this Berghoff knife quite a lot. It is as sharp, balanced and well honed as any fillet/boning knife I have used. I have a VERY high standard for knives which goes back to my time living in Germany in 1979, during which I observed the art of the German knife manufacture in the famous Solingen area. If I could, would take off 1/2 point due to a few quirks in the design of the handle. The top and bottom "bolster" areas of the knife aren't comfortable for a softer female hand (too "crisp" steel edges). But if you have a leathery hand, this probably shall not be an issue. All in all, if your boning project is simple enough, this will be an excellent knife due to a fine blade that will make quick work of any filleting, "Fleisch oder Fische" (translation from the German: meat or fish"). Make this a purchase if you understand that there is a better knife for every purpose. This is definitely a "Better Knife".

Yamazaki Median 5-Piece Place Setting

Yamazaki Median 5-Piece Place SettingI am a pretty big guy and like Euro style continental sized flatware, but these are for giants. It's not just length but the overall heft and width. Way too big. The knife's handle is hollow and super thick. There is no way it would not fall off the plate if carried on it.

Surprisingly poorly finished unlike other Yamazaki sets I have seen. Quality control lacking, my set came with two dinner forks, instead of one dinner and salad forks.

If you're 7 ft and 300 lbs these may be for you.

Emeril Stainless Steel Cookware Sets

Emeril Stainless Steel with Copper and Pouring Spouts Dishwasher Safe 14-Piece Cookware Set, SilverI have had the 10 piece set for a little over a month now, and I can honestly say I love it! And let me tell you, I cook ALL the time 7 days a week, and at least 2-3 meals a day. So figure I have used these pots/pans at least 60 times by now. I have cooked everything from rice to steaks to vegetables, soups, pastas, sauces, and even things as delicate as eggs! The bottom heats very evenly, and quickly, and the handles DO NOT get hot, which was very surprising for me. Before I purchased, I was willing to accept the fact that I was more than likely going to have to deal with hot handles, as is the case with most stainless steel cookware, but with these I was pleasantly surprised. Even after being on the stove over high heat for a long period of time, the handles are still cool! But that is not to be confused with the handles on the lids I find that the handles on the lids may become very warm after prolonged exposure to heat, but that it is generally to be expected if lid handles are not rubber coated, but that doesn't bother me in the least.

To me, the weight of each individual piece of cookware is just perfect heavy enough to feel sturdy and durable, but light enough for me to comfortably lift and move them with one hand while cooking (assuming I don't have something heavy in them). That is something that was very important when considering cookware. I know a lot of people say "the heavier, the better, because that means it is better quality"...but seriously, I don't want to have to use 2 hands and develop forearms like Popeye just to lift a pan from one burner to another. Yeah, I need something durable and practical, and this set is it for me.

To the person saying that the lids do not fit correctly, I have had no problems with rice(or steaming vegetables and such)cooking properly. From my experience, the lids keep the moisture in very well.

And to anyone who has never owned a stainless steel cookware set, and is hesitating because of the "NOT non-stick" factor here is a tip that converted me to stainless steel forever heat the SS pan directly on the burner, and get it nice and hot to the point where if you put a drop or two of water directly in the pan, it will bead up and dance and glide around bottom. When it gets to that point, remove from the heat source, (or you can turn down the heat while it is still on the burner, but it will take longer), and let it cool off slightly enough to where it wouldn't burn butter if you added it. Return back to the burner and turn heat down to medium(more or less, depending upon what you are cooking), add your butter/oil, and whatever you are cooking, and Voila! non-stick! It has to do with getting the pan getting so hot that the heat causes the metal to microscopically expand and fills up the tiny pores in the steel that food would normally sink into while cooking (sticking). But then you have to to turn it down to your actual cooking temp so things do not burn, and while doing so, the steel will remain expanded until the pan is completely cooled. That is advice passed on from experienced, professional chefs.

Anyway, overall, this set is beautiful, functional, and of great quality. Even "if" this set wears out in 10 to 30+ years down the road, I will definitely be buying another one.

There are no words to describe how pleased I am with my new cookware. It is so much fun to cook again now that I have purchased this set!

Prior to my purchase, I did a lot of research on cookware to make the best choice for my cooking needs and my budget. I definitely made the right choice by purchasing this set.

So far, the performance of this cookware has been outstanding. Heating and boiling are much quicker than with my previous non-stick set (Calphalon), and the cooking is much more even.

My favorite part about this set is that there are pour spouts on some of the pans, and measurement markings inside of them as well. A couple of the lids have strainers, so if you are cooking something that needs to be drained (like pasta or vegetables), it's a one-pot job.

Even though this cookware claims to be oven-safe up to 550 degrees (lids to 350), I have not yet put any of the pans in the oven. Obviously, handles will be too hot without using oven mitts if you are going to cook in the oven, but as far as stovetop cooking goes, my experience has been that the handles remain cool to the touch.

I have seen a couple of negative reviews (on other websites) about some of the pots melting. There is a care sheet that comes with the cookware explaining that the pans can melt IF you place an empty pot on a hot stove for an extended period of time. There are plenty of other helpful tips included on the care sheet. In order to get the most out of your Emerilware, I suggest you read the instructions carefully. They are included for a reason.

I am also very pleased that this cookware comes with a lifetime warranty, and All-Clad will repair or replace defective cookware (excluding damage from misuse or abuse).

This cookware is prone to water spots when running them through the dishwasher, but the spots are easily removed by using a soft cloth and some Bar Keeper's Friend. That stuff is incredible. Get some after you purchase your Emerilware.

Get this cookware it's awesome. You won't regret it.

Emerilware Stainless 10-Piece Cookware Set

I have had a set of Emerilware for some time and loved it. I ordered the 10 piece set to get additional pieces to use. The style has changed and the lids do not fit well. The lids are loose fitting and allow too much steam to escape during cooking. The pour spouts with the holes in the lids seems like a good idea, but it allows food to pour out as well as excess liquid. Do not like the new handles and the new style is much lighter weight. Just not happy with the new style cookware.

I think this set is great for the price!

I switched from a set of Circulon pots and pans that I'd worn out over the last 10 years and decided to give the stainless steel a try. These pots and pans are great. They have weight to them and they hold heat very well. Frankly, I don't turn them up past medium, since they conduct the heat so well.

The glass tops are great. I don't have to take the lid off to check my food.

They're also not that hard to clean with the proper powder cleaner.

As for cooking eggs in the pans, I have successfully with butter to coat the pan and low heat. I'll probably still go with the non-stick fry pan I keep around though, it's a bit easier.

Can you find better pots and pans? Probably, but they'll cost you a lot more. So unless your a pro, or a pro wannabe these will do you good for a long time.

Want Emeril Stainless Steel Cookware Sets Discount?

This was my first set of SS cook wear after years of cheap non-stick pots and pans from different manufacturers and I'm sorry I waited so long.

The saucepan, as well as both fry pans, require far less heat to get the job done. The "brown bits" left after cooking fish, chicken or steak allow me to make a flavorful sauce with these dishes I could never do with non-stick.

Clean-up is easy and the pans look brand new after a wash and some Bar Keepers Friend. The bottoms of the pans heat evenly and I haven't had any "hot spots" on the cooking surface that would cause problems with my old set.

I've had to experiment a little with the correct heats to keep fish from sticking. Once I learned where I needed to be, sticking no longer was an issue.

The saucepan has a pouring lip and the glass lid has holes in the rim to allow for straining of pasta after cooking which eliminates the need to use (and dirty) a strainer. I've gone from stove top to oven with fish and steak and had terrific results. I've only had one instance where I forgot to use an oven mitt for the handle that was enough to help me remember next time.

Another nice little feature is liquid measurements etched into the inside wall of the saucepans so if your recipe requires a certain amount of liquid, you can just measure with the pot instead of dirtying a measuring cup.

Overall, I have found nothing to complain about and find myself cooking more than ever just to use the set. I wish I had bought them years ago.

This is a joy to have after fighting with my husband for years over kitchen knives! Why didn't I just do it years ago! Good grip, solid bladenice.

OXO Good Grips Spreader

OXO Good Grips SpreaderThe first time I put the spreader in the dishwasher, it came out with a bunch of small rust spots on the blade. I've tried to buff them out, but they are still there. It looks dirty so I don't even use it anymore.

I got one of these with an Oxo bagel holder, and frankly I don't use it all that often. My kids are another matter. They tell me this is MUCH easier to make PB&J sandwiches with. They use it for jelly on toast, making sandwiches, putting cream cheese or butter on a bagel, etc. If you're an adult accustomed to just grabbing the nearest table knife, I wouldn't bother. But if you've got kids, you might want to consider it. The smaller size and grippy handle seems to be easier for smaller hands to handle and hey, they can make their own sandwiches to take to school!

Buy OXO Good Grips Spreader Now

The design, mfg. and usage are excellent but the choice of material is not. Since when is it OK to use recycled stainless steel in food products, this means the stainless steel they used contained scrap iron, steel, aluminum, motor oil, etc. This is indicated by rusty spot and staining on the blades. Why does made in USA have to follow USDA,NSF guide lines for our health but made in China does not, once again high profit margins are more important than our health.

First time we washed these in dishwasher rust appeared on blades. The blades are marked "stainless steel".

Very disappointed, other OXO products we have purchased were of good quality.

I have had this spreader for several years now. I really like it, but you have to take REALLY good care of it, or buy a new one every year or so. You must dry it immediately after washing, so that it won't rust (I wash mine in the dishwasher sometimes, but make sure to pull it out right away when it's done). Also, the grip at the bottom became unglued shortly after using it. This is possible due to me washing it in the dishwasher though.

Now when I wash the spreader, I remove the handle (water will get into the handle and you don't want that), wash it by hand and dry it off. Then I let it set a few hours more, and put the item back together again. If this sounds like too much hassle for you, then you might look elsewhere.

Victorinox 10-Inch Chef's Knife, Rosewood Handle

Victorinox 10-Inch Chef's Knife, Rosewood HandleWas in need of a new knife and I read great reviews on the Victorinox brand. A review from Lifehacker.com was what sent me searching for a good deal. The knife is incredibly sharp and easy to handle. The only drawback I see from this particular knife is that it is on the lighter side. Also the blade isn't full tanged stopping about a centimeter from the end of the handle and the rosewood handle isn't as nice as I thought it would have been. Feeling on the cheaper side. Aside from that it cuts like no other.

I purchased this knife as a gift for a family member who loves to cook. He tells us that it is the best knife he has and uses it for just about everything he must prepare to serve up a dish. The quality is exceptional. He says he can highly recommend it for any serious cook.

Wusthof Gourmet 4-1/2-Inch Serrated Utility

Wusthof Gourmet 4-1/2-Inch Serrated UtilityI have had this knife for several years about five. I refer to it as my "favorite" knife. I absolutely abuse it (run it through the dishwasher practically ever other day; leave it in water)and it's still the best knife I have. It's wonderful on tomatoes, all types of fruit, and cutting breads. I can't say enough about it. Buy this knife.

This is probably my second favorite (or at least, second most used) knife in the kitchen. If I could only have one knife, it would certainly be my full sized cook's knife. However, I probably reach for this knife more, especially when it comes to smaller, more common jobs. (Slicing a baguette, making a sandwich, light prep work, etc.)

The knife is stamped steel as is consistent with the rest of Wusthof's Gourmet line. The blade has a wonderful combination of flexibility and rigidity. I have no problems filleting or butterflying with this knife. I'd almost call this knife agile. If you fillet, pocket, or butterfly a lot, I'd prefer a Wusthof Gourmet knife to one of Wusthof's forged knives. I have examples of both, and prefer the thinner, stamped Gourmet blades for jobs that require flexibility.

The serrations are on the right, or correct, side of the knife (if you're right handed that is.) Serrations on the right side mean that the cut portion is pushed away from the larger piece as you cut through. So many manufacturers put the serrations on the left side of the knife. This is a subtle yet important distinction. If the serrations are on the wrong side of the blade, you will find that the blade has a tendency to pull towards you and to get stuck. This leads to ugly, uneven cuts.

The knife's tang is full length, though not full depth. It's not that the tang has been tapered to reduce weight or change balance. Rather, the tang itself is only half as deep as the handle itself is. In use, this doesn't matter much. However, if you're a stickler for aesthetics or snob appeal, you should know that this knife won't match the rest of your full tang set. Wusthof (nor any of the other major manufacturers) make a rounded tip, full tang, serrated knife in this size, so I am quite content to compromise here.

I am quite pleased with this knife, but honestly, I wouldn't buy it a second time. (Alright, truthfully, a third time. I already have two.) If I were in the market for a rounded tip, serrated knife, I'd almost certainly buy the Victorinox Cutlery 4-1/2-Inch Wavy Edge with Round Tip Steak Knife as a set or individually. I find that the Victorinox cuts just as well, but is nearly 20% of the price. Neither knife is (really) full tang, and both are stamped steel. The only real advantage that the Wusthof has is in snob appeal, and that's just not something I care to indulge in. A small advantage of the Wusthof is that it does seem to resist water spots better than the Victorinox knives.

Buy Wusthof Gourmet 4-1/2-Inch Serrated Utility Now

This might come across as petty, but the blade is 12cm which is just under 4 3/4". So the blade is a hair longer than advertised....big whoop. Other than that this knife is everthing I'd expect from Wusthof in sharpness and utility. I really like this blade size because as a bread baker I often need a serrated blade but not one the length of a traditional bread knife. This would also make a great knife for cutting baguettes for service. This is a gift mom would actually use (probably every day). A plastic blade guard would be a nice addition.

This knife makes a fabulous steak knife. The serrated edge is very sharp and grips steak well, and the 4 1/2" size is just the right length. It's also great for tomatoes. My mom has a whole set of KitchenAid steak knives, and will only use this.

Want Wusthof Gourmet 4-1/2-Inch Serrated Utility Discount?

I bought this item this month and have used it for the first time this week. The knife feels balanced and looks nice.

I have some other knives in my kitchen, but a good serrated knife can not be replaced. I wanted a good serrated knife for slicing bagels and other breads. This will do nicely for that job. I was concerned about a 4.5" knife working well enough. This is not an issue.

I have even used it to slice onions and other veggies. Last night I used it to slice the end off of a garden hose! It cut right though the reinforced hose.

This will become my 2nd favorite knife in the house. The #1 "fav" is my kyocera ceramic blade that I have had for several years. Drop that fragile knife and all you have will be nice memories; this Wusthof knife is tuff.

Thanks to all who have left feedback. I rely on the feedback when making purchases.

The Simply Calphalon Cutlery Set is absolutely wonderful and worth every penny! The 18-Piece set provides every style of knife any regular person could possible need. The knives have made cooking a whole new and fun adventure for me because they slice and dice so nicely. My favorite of the bunch is the 6" Santoku, which I use to chop vegetables for stews, tacos, etc. The only negative feedback I have is a cosmetic one: the wooden block would look nicer in a deeper color wood. The lighter wood gives it a cheaper look overall than it deserves.

Masahiro, Yanagi, Betsussen, 210mm, Import from Japan

Masahiro, Yanagi, Betsussen, 210mm, Import from JapanIt slices thru fish and meat with such ease it's almost scary, so handle this knife with care!

When cutting, don't try to just push down the blade, instead use a sawing action.. it won't tug or pull the meat or sushi rolls when you do this... it will just slice right thru with ease.

DO NOT use oil to sharpen this knife. You must use a (water) wet stone. Depending on how much you use the knife will determine how often you need to sharpen it, however it seems to hold it's edge for a while.

Be careful of the blade as it can get nicks easily don't just throw it in the drain pan with your pots and pans. (I did this and wanted to cry.. but they rub out with the wet stone)

I don't know if this is normal for this type of knife or not, but the blade will develop a very light rust if you don't dry it off immediately and apply a very light rubbing of vegetable oil on it.

Overall, I just LOVE this knife. It has great balance and weight, the handle is incredibly comfortable and this knife makes everything soooooo much easier.

**** EDIT****

Well curiosity got the better of me and I discovered the following:

Yes, carbon blades have what is called a natural patina. AKA a natural very light/ orange rust is normal on carbon steel blades. Also, if you are like me and just don't want to see a "rusty" look, do as I suggested abovejust wipe with a little vegetable oil and you will have no visible patina to grate on your esthetic nerves.

I also learned that carbon steel is what allows the knife to obtain such an incredibly sharp edge and what makes them easy to sharpen.

In addition, carbon steel, white steel, and blue steel: no real difference except Blue steel does have a very slightly different composition that makes it marginally better quality. So don't be fooled by all the fancy jargon when shopping for your knife. Unless you are a professional chef who will use the knife 20 times in a single day, this is NOT gonna make the slightest bit of difference to any domestic user.

I also confirmed that the edges of the blade are indeed very prone to nicks b/c of the hardness of the metal (HRC 60-63) so yeah, you really do need to handle these kind of knives with care so that you don't nick the blade.

Magnetic Kitchen Knife Holder: 12-inches

Magnetic Kitchen Knife Holder: 12-inchesI purchased this item because the wood matched my cabinets and it was being offered at a very reasonable price ($14.50 or so). I went ahead and purchased even though there weren't any reviews on it at the time (somebody's gotta be first, right?).

The good:

It was well packed upon arrival and its box was intact. This is about where the good aspects of this purchase end.

The bad:

I took it out of the box and not one, but BOTH of the magnet strips slid out before the wood did. They had been attached with what appeared to be some VERY cheap wood glue. Why the manufacturer thought this would be a good idea when dealing with two different surface types (one of which is not porous and most definitely not wood) is beyond me. I might have overlooked this as I tend to keep epoxy and JB weld on hand, but the final straw was the fact that this didn't even come with mounting hardware.

Overall:

Horrible product, but great customer service on Amazon's part (I have yet to be disappointed by Amazon's customer service). I put in my return request on a Sunday evening and the "trash" was gone from my porch by the time I got home from work on Monday afternoon.

Excellent Item, very well made. No problem with attaching knives because the magnet is very strong. The screws are for drywall but worked well for attaching to side of wood cabinet. Highly recommend this item after researching other magnetic kitchen knife holders.

Zassenhaus from Kuchenprofi Weimar 7.8-Inch Stainless Steel and Acrylic Electric Salt Mill

Zassenhaus from Kuchenprofi Weimar 7.8-Inch Stainless Steel and Acrylic Electric Salt MillVery high quality grinder for salt or pepper! Loads very easily and operates like dream! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for the best!

I purchased the pepper mill and the salt mill. I don't know how I got along without them before. I rely on the light and I find the push button so easy to use I actually look forward to adding salt and pepper. Have had them three months now, and I really enjoy them. They look great on the oven hood, too.

Update Problem: It is month 10 for the salt and pepper mills. The pepper mill has just gone kaput. Have tried 3 sets of batteries; have tried with the housing on and off the unit, and double checked the internal connection. It's always the same; it starts to work and within one or two seconds the motor dies out. We use the pepper mill a lot more than the salt, so now I'm wondering how long the salt mill will work. At the price of these units, and no way to contact the company (we don't speak German) I don't intend to to replace this with another of the same. What a disappointment. Loved it while it worked.

This is a excellent salt mill. It grinds with little effort and is not as loud as other products. I've owned more than one electric salt mill and other products have seemed to be loud and labor at grinding, including some high priced mills. This one is worth the extra money and the little LED light at the bottom is neat if you like to eat in a darkened enviroment.

Ginsu Bagel Slicer

Ginsu Bagel SlicerLift the blade guard (yes, blade guard). Insert and center a bagel of your choice. Close the translucent guard and gently, firmly (you don't need a hekuva lot of pressure, since the blade is razor sharp) draw the handle down until it comes to rest at the bottom of the guard.

Open and remove your perfectly cut bagel-two perfect halves. No more "20%/80% or just plain, crooked cuts!

Furthermore the unit allows small ones or elderly folks with an appreciation of bagels to cut their own without the risk of also cutting themselves in the process.

Boy, if only we had an "avocado slicer," we'd have it made!

Reasonable, attractive construction of plastic and steel. Looks nice on the counter.

MIU France Forged Stainless Steel Santoku Knife, 7-Inch

MIU France Forged Stainless Steel Santoku Knife, 7-InchPerfect size for my uses. Takes a very sharp edge, but requires frequent sharpening. I don't really mind, since this takes only a few seconds before each use. I would also prefer the handle to be a little thicker, but at this price point, I would rate it as an excellent value and have recommended it to friends.

I received this knife free with the purchase of a Chef's Choice sharpener from a different seller (sans guard). It is actually a pretty good knife. It is fairly well balanced and is solidly built. It came with a very good edge and passed the "tomato test" with flying colors. The handle is a bit small for my ham hands, but on par with many more expensive knives. I haven't had it long enough to tell how well it holds an edge. one interesting note: it is only beveled on one side.

As the title says, this will be a good back up to my everyday knife, a Wustof Santoku. It would also be good as part of a starter set for someone setting up housekeeping for the first time. The name of the knife/manufacturer is a bit misleading, tho. As you might guess for a knife at this price point, it has nothing to do with France, but is made in China.

Always wanted a santoku but the cost kept me away. I've been very happy with this knife, I cut alot of vegetables and it does the job well.

I own several Santoku knives and no 2 are alike and I use them all.. I give this one a 5 star for the value per dollar and I got mine in a set of 3 MIU knives for 30 bucks, so it was a super deal.. I handles well and takes an edge quickly so I highly recommend it although some women may find it a bit heavy.. A good forged knife of this size and price is remarkable..
