Stainless Steel Cheese Slicer

Stainless Steel Cheese SlicerWhile the tool seems well built and capable of its design function (slicing cheese in three thicknesses), it is an epic fail in the truth in advertising department. Please note the tool is made of Aluminum and not the stainless steel offered by the ad. It is, in fact, made of aluminum and the packaging says "Aluminum Cheese Slicer" with stainless steel blades. No list of replacement parts is supplied with the tool so I guess I can't order/change the wire "blades".

UPDATE 7-2-2012

I've had a chance to use this tool several times now and I am less pleased every time I take it out. Although the package claims "Cuts hard like butter", it crubles rather than slices aged cheddar. Slices tend to break at the bottm edge before the slicer can pass through the bottom of the slice. It will cleanly slice through common (mild) cheddar, jack and swiss cheeses and it does provide three thickness options. If all you need is slices, this is a decent tool for the job. If you want cubes, sticks or pieces thicker than 3/8 Inch, or if you are cutting harder cheeses you'll need another tool.

WELL MADE, WORKS GREAT, I USE IT ALMOST EVERYDAY. CLEANS EASILY !!!!! I WISH I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THIS CHEESE SLICER FIRST INSTEAD USING SEVERAL OTHERS BEFORE. THIS IS THE BEST BAR NONE!

I had a cheese slicer in this same style and had difficulties finding a replacement. This thing has worked great.

Would highly recommend this product simply because it works extremely well. I have had other cheese slicers in the past, but this one is by far the best one I have owned, although others have looked a bit fancier.

I've used this item a few times thus far and my initial take is that it seems to be a quality, well-made product. Does a great job of slicing thicker, harder cheeses.

Core Bamboo Aster Collection Bamboo Cutting Board with Non Slip Grip

Core Bamboo Corner Grip Cutting Board MediumI bought this cutting board because the cutting board I currently have for cutting meat slips on our counter. This cutting board has non-slip grips in the four corners, and this part of the board works great. The board is very sturdy and doesn't move when cutting things. What I don't like about the board is the juice groove is not deep enough to be effective for its job. I needed something for cutting meat after grilling. Since we like our meat on the rare side we need the cutting board to have a juice groove deep enough to catch the juices. This board's groove was very shallow. It was more decorative than functional. If you don't need the juice groove feature then I'd recommend the board. Otherwise I'd look for a different board.

I've had my cutting board from Core Bamboo now for a few days. I've oiled it up, front and back. Now I am ready to use. I rated it 4 stars and not 5 only because I feel the price of this board is a little much. But it seemed like it was the only one that had all of the features we wanted, dual surfaces and and the 18x14 size. I will wait to see how it holds up in the next few months as my wife and I use it.

The green rubber feet work well to keep the board stable and off of the counter surface. I am happy to have a board where I have two surfaces to use! One flat and the other with a drip groove to collect the juices. Actually the rubber feet they use are a ingenious design. I wonder if they will give any problems down the road... I'm worried they may dry and crack or something. Again, only time will tell.

Overall I am very pleased, the size is perfect for us next to our sink, and over all it seems very well put together.

I'll report back and update my review if I have any major problems with the board.

4/21/2012: This cutting board is great. It's still going strong and a year and a half later it still looks great. I oil it about every 3 or 4 months and it comes back to live wonderfully. Rubber corner grips look the same as the day we first got it. I have no concerns now about the ability of this board to hold up over time. We use it everyday, several times a day in our busy home.

It has a few cutting marks in it but nothing severe. I would say that we will use this for at least several more years to come.

If it is the size you want or need, Buy It! By the way, they're customer service is, courteous and responsive as well!

Core Bamboo Classic 14-Piece Kitchen Utensil Set, Natural

Core Bamboo Classic 14-Piece Kitchen Utensil Set, Natural(2008 HOLIDAY TEAM) Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I made the switch to bamboo for my kitchen spoons (can we still call them wooden spoons? Because, ya know, bamboo isn't technically "wood.") a few years back and I have been thrilled with them. There is really no reason not to use bamboo--as a fast-growing grass bamboo is an ecologically sound material, bamboo utensils work just as well as their wooden counterparts, and they look great. And to be honest, I like to have a pretty kitchen, so the "looks great" part matters to me.

But it isn't everything. Which leads me to this "Core Bamboo Classic 14-Piece Kitchen Utensil Set, Natural." They look great. The bamboo caddy is very sleek, and an attractive way to keep your spoons organized and easy to reach. I like having it on my counter and the set is a nice addition to my kitchen.

The utensils, on the other hand--I own quite a few bamboo utensils, and these are the most rough-hewn, cheaply-made ones I have ever seen. I was surprised by them. They look unfinished, like they skipped the step in the processing where you smooth down the edges and apply a polish. There are even splinters. I don't understand that. In my years of buying bamboo utensils, even down to the cheapest bulk sets, I have never seen splinters.

To be fair, you get a lot of utensils for a cheap price--13 pieces in all, this is pretty much the classic wooden utensil set, plus a bizarre pair of bamboo salad tongs--but it is quantity over quality. The shaping of the tools is as poor as the finishing. You won't be able to flip anything other than a burger with this club of a spatula, and the tongs are more frustrating than useful If all you want is to stir or scrape a pot, or some task that requires no finesse, then these will work just fine. But I don't have high hopes for their longevity.

This set isn't horrible. Like I said, I like the caddy, which has a much more finished look to it than the utensils themselves. And you get a bunch of utensils. It might work for someone just starting out who wants a bunch of cheap-quality utensils at a fair price, knowing full well they will end up in the trash heap in a few years. I have tossed most of these utensils into my "use for camping" stash of cheap kitchen supplies, but the caddy still looks nice with different, better quality spoons.

Ultimately, there are many, many better sets out there at a similar price. So I personally recommend giving these a miss and shopping around for something better.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This 14 piece set (13 utensils and 1 caddy) is 100% organic bamboo which is great because its a natural resource and its not a tree. It looks fantastic on the counter top but each utensil has a hole in the bottom so it can also be hung up.

Someone noted that the caddy bottom is not attached, well since mine was I'm going to advise that if it arrives unattached its probably broken and you should call customer service.

I love cooking with wooden utensils and I like bamboo a lot better. Its less absorbent which is important so that it doesn't absorb any food product. You need to hand wash them. Placement in the dish washer, microwave or prolonged soaking is not recommend. That's ok with me but is something to consider for others. The box also shows you what each piece is called and I'm very sure ill use them all. All the utensils are curved as well to make them easier to use.

Overall a great set for anyone regardless if your new in the kitchen, an experienced chef or somewhere in between. Highly recommend!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program We spend a lot of time in the kitchen around our house, so a good set of cooking/serving utensils is invaluable. Up until recently we've only had a random assortment of mismatched utensils making it a constant search through the drawer looking for the right one. Enter the "Core Bamboo Classic 14-Piece Kitchen Utensil Set, Natural." Here are my thoughts;

The set includes the following utensils;

Spatula

Slotted Stir-fry Spatula

Pointed Spatula

Slotted Pointed Spatula

Spork

Medium Spoon

Large Spoon

Slotted Spoon

Perforated Spatula

Slotted Spatula

Tongs

Pasta Paddle

Turner

Utensil Caddy

Pros

+ 100% organically grown bamboo.

+ A lot of utensils for the price.

+ Simple look and natural design.

+ Bamboo construction has multiple benefits such as being lighter, less absorbent, less abrasive on your pots/pans and better for the environment.

Cons

Sides can dent easily if you're not careful.

Utensils are poorly finished/treated and can contain splinters.

Some natural imperfections in the wood. For example my slotted spatula's has a worn and thinned area right at the tip making future cracking a probability. The tip of my medium spoon has already chipped most likely due to heat/scraping on the bottom of a pan.

Not microwave or dishwasher safe.

The "Core Bamboo Classic 14-Piece Kitchen Utensil Set, Natural" is a basic but useful set of utensils. While this set has its flaws you get a generous amount of utensils for the asking price. It was definitely a welcome and much needed addition to our kitchen.

I purchased these about 2 months ago and they have held up well for me so far. I primarily use the spoons and the pasta fork. They are hand wash only, which is the only drawback for me. I really like the way it looks on the counter, and so far I am really happy with this purchase.

Bamboo is tough stuff and is very durable in a wide range of applications. Core Bamboo Classic 14-Piece Kitchen Utensil Set, Natural is a very nice-looking set of kitchen utensils. No question about it. The handles are comfortable to hold with my big 'ol paws. The bamboo holder is nicely done. Wusthof Classic 8-Inch Deli Knife

Wusthof Classic 8-Inch Deli KnifeI put off puchasing this knife for a long time, I knew I wanted it and it would make sandwich cutting a bit easier and I wouldnt bang my knuckles on the board anymore, but I procrastinated and put it off.

Now that I have this knife, I am disapointed I allowed myself to wait this long. This knife is amazing. It is not just a fancier version of the bread knife. This thing is in a whole different class when it comes to cutting breads. My old bread knife (also a Wushtof) is like trying to use a butter knife when compared to using this one. Add to that the benefit of it being more comfortable and the offset making it easier to use, and you have a real winner in this knife.

This knife puts a regular bread knife to shame and, unlike your bread knife, can be used for more than just cutting bread. The name Deli Knife is perfect for this knife. It cuts cheeses and hard deli meats effortlessly. It will blaze through a tall deli sandwich effortlessly without crushing it. Cuts soft and crusty breads with ease.

The only drawback I found with this knife is that it wont fit in the slot in my knife block that has now been vacated by my bread knife.

Unbelievably, this knife is now one of my favorites.

I have a fairly substantial collection of knives and this is becoming one of my favorites. The Wusthof classic line, some of which I've had for over 25 years, just seem to go on forever and still look great. Its scalloped blade makes short work of any breads, party subs, bagels, tomatoes, pot roast, ham--anything needing slicing with a touch precise enough to slice thinly without tearing. The offset construction provides a more secure grip and control for whatever slicing task is at hand. It's far from inexpensive, but when considering it multi-tasks as a tomato/bread/sandwich/slicer and carver(I'd use it carefully with boned meats to avoid any chance of dulling the edge),it was money well spent.

Buy Wusthof Classic 8-Inch Deli Knife Now

This is one knife in a long list of Wushof knifes (around 20) I have bought for my wife. She loves the knife just like all the other but really likes the offset handle when she cuts bread or sandwich. She doesn't have to slide the bread or sandwich to the edge of the table to cut it any more.

The Ex 5-Piece Knife Set with Unique Black Holder Designed By Raffaele Iannello

The Ex 5-Piece Knife Set with Unique Black Holder Designed By Raffaele IannelloWhen I first saw this product a couple of years ago there were never pictures of the sheaths on the back of the little guy. I never noticed it in the pictures here on amazon and when I got it I was shocked they changed the design. Luckily they break really easily and the knives are held in place by some strong magnets inside the hollow plastic shell. This thing is also friggin huge so be prepared to make some counter space for it.

I got this as a gift for my girlfriend who loved it until we got it out of the box. The plastic guy is hollow and feels cheap. The plastic sheath for the knives that stick out the back of the guy are ugly and take away from the appearance. The magnets that are supposed to help hold the knives in place aren't always strong enough and I usually find that the knives have fallen off them and are resting on the blade in the plastic sheath. The knives rust easily and often so they must be a very low grade stainless steel and they dulled very quickly. All around I was extremely disappointed. This is not worth anywhere near $70, I should have returned it when I still could but I was still caught up in the novelty of this product for the first week that the knives still cut anything. I have to sharpen these things way too often. For the people who said these knives were good, they could only mean when compared to a plastic butter knife.

I bought The Ex strictly because of the holder. To my delight, the knives are good quality. I made hot wings yesterday, and cutting through them was like butter. I had The Ex on my wish list for two forevers, I only wish I had gotten it sooner. You won't be disappointed. The ONLY caveat I would mention is to be sure to measure the distance between the countertop and your cabinets. The Ex is tall. Mine fit snugly, but if you have low cabinets, you might have a problem.

This piece is a bit larger than I expected but it's still a unique addition to my kitchen. The knives are top quality! I definitely recommend as a gift or for personal use.

Want The Ex 5-Piece Knife Set with Unique Black Holder Designed By Raffaele Iannello Discount?

After looking through hundreds of knife sets online, I stumbled upon The Ex. Not only is it a well designed and humorous piece to any kitchen, it's slices, stabs, chops, pares, and skins its way into your heart. It's also sold at an unbeatable price. I originally had my heart set on a magnetic knife stand but was swayed after seeing the originality in this unique knife block.

The Ex comes with 5, quality stainless steel knives that serve different purposes. I, personally, have not put the knives to use but have gotten a chance to hold them and examine their quality. The knives have no special handle so your hands are exposed to the cold, shiny steel which proves to be more beneficial to its aesthetics rather than it's function. Wet, slippery hands could pose a bloody problem if the user isn't careful. The five knives are an 8-inch chef's knife, 8-inch bread knife, 8-inch carver, 5-inch utility, and 3-1/2-inch parer. Each knife is protected by a clear sleeve that is attached to the back of the figure for added protection when the knives are on display. The designers have even gone as far as inserting hidden magnets inside the slots for each knife so that when ruthlessly stabbing your figure, you encounter a sometimes surprising jolt from your unfortunate friend.

The Ex requires very little assembly out of the box. Two nuts that can be tightened by hand allow the figure to prop upright on its planted stand which has rubber feet to prevent your figure from sliding away. Once assembled, it's pleasantly large. In my kitchen, it was just able to slide under my low rise cabinets.

The Ex comes in Red, Black (my choice), Pink, Chrome, and White.

In my apartment, it is always a conversation starter. A great way to reveal the dark-humour from within. Not to mention, this is also a fantastic product if you happen to be coming off a recent break-up. Who says you can't throw money at the problem. At least you have something to play with as your contemplating your gloriously gory revenge.

Mundial 5100 Series 7-Inch Santoku Knife, Black

Mundial 5100 Series 7-Inch Santoku Knife, BlackI'm not a professional but this knife seems like a well constructed, heavy duty knife. It is extremely sharp out of the boxonly time will tell if it lives up to expectations. Thus far, it compares favorably to my Henckels 8" chef's knife. The Mundial 5100 7" Santoku is actually heavier though the handle is slightly smaller.

After picking up the 10 inch Mundial 5100 French-style chef's knife I was impressed enough with its quality to go with them again for a good utility knife for "in betweener" jobs.

Being 6"1' anything under 10" is too small as an all around chef's knife and I've found this santoku is a perfect halfway between a paring and chef's knife--the ever needed utility knife. If you prefer the smaller blades (8" chef's knife) this might not replace a sturdier French-style chef's knife but it's well worth the investment for the finer things.

I'm generally a minimalist as far as the knives I use but this was definitely worth the extra slot on my magnet.

As far as overall Mundial 5100 series quality, as I said in my French knife review, it stands pretty well with the knives that cost 3x as much. The little bit of sharpness you sacrifice is more than made up for by increase in sturdiness.

Victorinox Swiss Classic 4-Inch Paring Knife, Spear Tip

Victorinox Swiss Classic 4-Inch Paring Knife, Spear TipFirst, as to how I decided on Victorinox knives, see my review of Victorinox 40520 Fibrox 8-Inch Chef's Knife. This knife, like the Chef's knife, does not look, nor feel, like much. But, yikes, can it cut, and it certainly doesn't slip in your hand.

I bought this knife for small things, like dicing carrots, onions, celery, etc. Great job. The first time I used it on celery, I thought the celery had gone limp because the knife went right through it without much effort at all but, thankfully, the celery was still good and so is this knife.

My criteria for choosing Victorinox knives were: 1) not expensive; and, 2) best value for $$ I could find. This knife definitely meets my criteria. I'll try to remember to update this in a year just to see how it stands up to almost daily use.

This knife does not feel like the same quality as the R.H. Forschner knives also sold by Victorinox, but it performs its function very well. This knife outperforms various series of Wusthof and Henkel knives I own costing up to 4 times as much. The blade is thin and sturdy but flexible. The knife handle is a hard textured plastic. The edge has stayed razor sharp through use, so I have not sharpened it yet. The only con of this knife would be the handle, but it is easy to grip and clean, just not as nice as the Fibrox handle found on many other Victorinox knives. Generally Fibrox has a kind of rubberized feel that this doesn't have.

Wusthof 4150-7 Classic 9-Inch Bread Knife

Wusthof 4150-7 Classic 9-Inch Bread KnifeBy far the best Bread knife I have ever used. Its weight and design lets it slice effortlessly through bread (and tomatoes if you are too lazy to get another knife out of the block). We bought this knife as part of a set, and out of the bunch it is my favorite knife.

If you are having trouble deciding between the Classic and the Grand Prix, I prefer the Classic.Although the Grand Prix is slightly more comfortable, I prefer the construction of the Classic. If you inspect the knives, you will see that the Wusthof Classic has a full metal tang with 3 rivets. The Grand Prix, although having the same blade, has a smaller, cylindrical tang that runs the entire handle of the knive. This tang is secured by a single large rivet at the end of the handle. Although I'm sure the Grand Prix is well built, I bought these knives for a lifetime of use and heartier construction of the Classics just appealed to me more.

One of my young ones received this as a gift and when it arrived at work we all just HAD to give it a try. We bake all of our breads from scratch and our crusty loaves surrendered meekly to this blade in two strokes no matter which recipe we attacked...it even sliced our house "Wonder Bread" sandwich loaves cleanly! This 9 inch is sooo much more versatile and heftier than the 8 inch ...size really does matter.

I'm biased against all Wusthof "Classic" knives...I think that they're too light weight and small scaled (the grip is too narrow for me) but...

I bought TWO of these for myself 'cause this is the BEST bread knife that I've EVER used although I highly recommend the "Grand Prix" line for it's better "grip".

Biased or not I'm still loadin' dis bad boy up wit tha MAX ...5 mojo*z! HAZAAH!!!

Warning: Prepare to waste a lot of bread! This knife will make you slice bread just for the fun of it. The weight of the knife alone is enough to cleanly cut even the thinnest slices, from any kind of bread.

Forget about buying sliced bread. Slice your own!

There are really two main competitors in the high-end mainstream kitchen knife market: Henckels and Wusthof. Those who have used both usually have a preference. My preference (and therefore bias you should know about) is for the Wusthofs.

The Wusthof Classic line is the more conservative counterpart to the Grand Prix line. The only difference, however, is the handle style. I personally prefer the Grand Prix, but this is an issue of personal preference. The balance and grip of these knives are as close to perfect as I have found. For those wondering what benefits a higher priced knife provides, one benefit is that the blade (or tang) is one piece all the way through the handle. This makes the blade much stronger, and less likely to snap.

This particular model, the bread knife, is a great knife. Many people think tomatoes are the hardest food items to clearly cut. I think bread is much more difficult; but this knife makes the task seem easy.

I highly recommend the Wusthof 9" bread knife.

Want Wusthof 4150-7 Classic 9-Inch Bread Knife Discount?

I bought this knife as a replacement for a cheap one that we used for years but was finally too dull to keep. After using it, I can't figure out why I didn't buy this a long time ago. It's fantastic. The handle grip is terrific, you get great leverage and the blade is wicked sharp--it's almost scary. I own both Henckels and Wusthof, and to me the Wusthof is definitely the superior blade. I highly recommend this knife.

Mundial G5604-7GE 7-Inch Hollow Edge Santoku Knife, GreenThis Mundial santoku is a very comfortable, lightweight all-around kitchen knife. I am not very impressed with its initial edge, which admittedly can be a comfort to those who fear sharp knives. As an experienced cook, I have learned to prefer thinner blades, which give less resistance when cutting. This is reminiscent of the types of blades which are rented and resharpened for restaurant and food service use. Its light weight, comfortable handle, and overall durability are its strongest features.

Wusthof Grand Prix II Chef's Knife

Wusthof Grand Prix II 8-Inch Cook's KnifeThis is an excellent knife: Hefty without being heavy, with perfect balance and a perfect handle, and perfect blade shape. It has good steel, good finishing, and a good edge. It's only disadvantage is that it has a full bolster. There are knives with better steel, finishing, edges, and looks, but the GP2 shines where it really matters: weight, balance, and handle comfort.

I have used many of the knives on the market (Forschner, F. Dick, and Messermeister industrial knives, MACs, Messermeister San Moritz, Henckel 4 and 5 star, Chefs Choice Trizor, Global classic and forged, Shun classic, TojiroDP, Wusthof Classic, GP, Cordon Bleu, and Culinar, even the ratty but cheap Farberware Pro Forged and Stainless). If I only owned 1 knife, it would be a toss-up between this and my 10" Forschner Fibrox. It doesn't get 5 stars because it lacks some of the features that are increasingly standard on a knife in this price range, but there is no knife on the market in this price range that I think garners 5 stars. The Messermeister has better steel, perfect finishing and modern features, but is too heavy and has bad balance. The Shun is pretty and has a perfect blade but mediocre balance and a tiny, straight, round handle. Globals are nice if you have small hands, but are overpriced and have been made obsolete by MAC, Shun, Tojiro, and a half dozen other Japanese manufacturers becoming available in the US. Forschners are cheap, flawlessly balanced, perform beautifully, and are an unbeatable value, but they're light, thin, look cheap, and aren't going to last like a high end knife. The MAC Superior series is amazing, but has a very limited selection of shapes and this isn't one of them. Their Ultimate Series Tungsten steel 10" chef is good, but twice the price of the Grand Prix2. You just have to decide what features matter to you and choose accordingly. Do not buy a knife unless you have held it in your hand, and preferably used it. Balance and comfort are highly subjective.

If you only own 1 knife, it should be a 10" chef. The 8" chef's knife is the most common size, but the 10" is usually preferred by professionals and experienced home cooks. Most block sets include the cheapest knives that can still function for most jobs, which is why sets usually include 8" chef's knifes, 8" bread knives, and 8" slicers, even though 10" knives usually do a better job. For chef's knives, the extra two inches make tip-work a little less precise, but have many advantages. The longer blade means easier cutting since it gives more leverage and weight. More importantly, the two inches are essentially added between the end of the blade and the bolster. This means that the front 8" of the 10" perform all the functions of an 8" knife, plus the extra two inches create a much longer straight area near the handle, which gives a 10" knife the same slicing length as a santoku. This means the 10" chef does everything both these knives do, and usually does it better. The reason santokus are popular among housewives and not professional chefs is that housewives compare the santoku to the curved 8" blade. Professionals are usually trained with 10" knives, so they see the santoku as a crippled 10" knife which is of value only to people who don't have the knife skills to use the more versatile and capable 10". These days, you can acquire knife skills by going online, reading through a free tutorial, and practicing for a few hours, so a 10" is a good choice for anyone who likes to cook.

1) This knife has the flawless balance that Wusthof is famous for (the balance point is precisely on the working fingers when using a pinch grip). Of the Wusthofs, it has the most comfortable and dependable handle. It won't slip when wet or greasy like stainless steel, and is more comfortable and durable than the two-part riveted handles.

2) This knife is hefty, without being heavy. It's not as light as an industrial or a Japanese knife (Global, Shun, etc), but not as heavy as a Chefs Choice or a Messermeister. Unlike a Japanese or industrial knife, is has the classic graduated spine that is thick near the handle and tapers continuously to a thin point, allowing different parts of the blade to perform different functions. If you want a heavy knife with a graduated, thicker spine with point heavy balance, buy the Messermeister San Moritz. If you want a light knife with a thin spine, buy the Forschner Fibrox, Shun, Global, or Wusthof Cordon Bleu, depending on your price range and sense of aesthetics.

3) At 1-7/8" wide, its blade is a little narrower than most 10" chef knives. This makes it lighter and gives it a sharper point, but can be a detriment when working on vegetables. If you want a wide-bladed knife, buy the Messermeister or the 10" Chefs Choice Trizor. The 10" Trizor is a great knife, but has been doomed to obscurity because all knife reviews feature the 8" chef, and the 8" Trizor chef has several deficiencies that the 10" mostly remedies. Because of the Grand Prix's narrower blade, the natural partner to this knife is a 7" light Chinese cleaver, which excels at all the things the GP is weak at, but is weak at all the things the GP excels at.

4) This knife leaves the factory with a 20 degree edge, which is not as sharp as the 15 degree edges on the Wusthof Cordon Bleu, Messermeister, or Japanese knives. The edge out of the box is irrelevant though, since it won't last and is easily changed. This knife will take a 15 degree edge and hold it well; the steel is average for a good knife, so it won't hold up as long as a Tungsten or Vanadium steel knife, but that's a small concern unless you're a professional. For the average home user, this means spending 2 minutes every three months, instead of every six. If you don't know how to use a stone, buy a Spyderco Sharpmaker; it comes with instructions, its cheaper than an electric, takes up less space, and sharpens smooth or serrated knives, plus any other pointy metal thing you might own.

5) The only problem with this knife is the full bolster. Full bolsters are essentially obsolete, and quickly being replaced with short bolsters (Shun, Messermeister, Chefs Choice) or no bolster (Global) knives. There are three problems with the full bolster: it makes sharpening more difficult, prevents you from using the full length of the blade, and is uncomfortable on the index finger when using a pinch grip. This problem can only be remedied attractively with a well-equipped bench grinder, which most people don't have and would rather not use on a $100 knife.

Wusthof doesn't make a perfect knife line. The Grand Prix2 is the pinnacle of the classic German style. The Cordon Bleu is a nice modern style knife. If the Grand Prix2 had the Cordon Bleu bolster and finishing, and a VG-10 blade, it would definitely be a 5 star knife. Until then, only 4 stars, but a solid recommendation.

This is, without exaggeration, the greatest knife ever made. I have some decent enough knives that I've used before (Sabatier), but this makes my other chef's knife look like an idiot. It is so effortless to use, and such a pleasure. Seriously, your food will practically cut itself with this knife. Your vegetables will part themselves, and the fat will slice itself away from your meats. I've always loved chopping food, ever since I learned how, but this raises the act from an enjoyable necessity past hobby and into the realm of culinary bliss.

Versatile, quick, will pretty easily manage many of the tasks of paring and fillet knives, as well as limited range chef work. Almost dangerous in its sharpness and deftness...almost cut myself a few times, after being lulled into rather reckless technique by a "pointless" santoku.

If you do cabbage, escarole, squash, and other rather big items, an 8-10 inch knife is still necessary.

Balance, design, fit and finish,...a dream. Oh, I forgot: metallurgy...wow.

First purchased Wusthof Grand Prix knives in 2001. Bought this knife for me this Christmas along with some other knives for my daughter's starter set.

This knife is the nicest, most well balanced I have ever owned. The handle is a little different from the earlier Grand prix knives but is a great improvement. Your pinky finger will fit perfectly on the handle while using it. I still like my other GP knives very very much, the GP II's are just better. Over the holidays I went on a cooking frenzy just to use my new knife.

These chef's knifes are a definite must have. Depending on your size, get either a 7",8",9",or 10". I am tall so I like the 9" and 10" the best. An average person will like the 8" or 9".

I recommend a good starter set as being: An 8 or 9" cook/chef knife. A 6" carving/utility knife and a 4 to 5" utility/sandwich knife.

I have lived with Wal-Mart and Target cheap knife sets for many years and got by just fine. But part of me wanted to know what I was missing spending by spending some money on good knives. After looking at recommendations I decided to go with this knife as my first "nice knife". Wow, the difference is worth the money. This knife is sharp, slices and chops anything I have thrown at it, and with a couple passes on a honing tool it stays sharp. It feels great using it and the handle has a nice curve in it that fits well in my hand. Needless to say, Wusthof has a lifetime customer in me and I have started building a set blade by blade. It's worth it.

Farberware Coriander Mirror 90-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 12 + 6-Piece Hostess Set

Farberware Coriander Mirror 90-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 12 + 6-Piece Hostess SetBottom line I returned this set once I tried one of the spoons. The table spoons are quite large so you'll experience the biting edge of the bare metal on the sides of your mouth. Wow feels like there was no sanding, smoothing of edges at all. Fresh sharp edge from the stamping process is going to make you learn your lesson on cheap silverware. Looked OK, just cannot have my guests in pain when I want them to enjoy themselves. I purchased another set on Amazon, was quite pleased. Amazon charged me 11 bucks to return this set but I think it was worth it.

I wanted some new flatware to replace the old tired stuff I was given when I got married 25 years ago. I didn't want anything strange or flashy so this set fit the bill. I also didn't want to spend a lot and this set was a good price.

My only partial complaint is that the tablespoons seem a bit on the large side. Everything else is perfect.

I like that thbis set came with some serving utensils as well. You can never have too many utensils around the holidays.

Great set for the price. Title lists as service for 16, but it is service for 12 as listed in the description. They wash well and keep their shine.

The tines on the forks seem a litte flimsy but I guess you get what you pay for. Better than others I have seen but not quite as strong as I would have liked.

Not a bad set for the money but they do feel a little light weight and I have had a knife rust in the dishwasher after about 10 washes.

Grande Epicure Acrylic Utility Board with Non Slip Feet

Grande Epicure M6501506 Acrylic 10-Inch by 14-Inch by 4mm Utility Board with Non Slip FeetI bought this to replace a similar cutting board that I have owned since 1972 that got lost when I moved. It is only textured on one side, so you can't used both sides. Even though it is textured, there are still cut marks on it after just a couple of weeks (my 40 year old cutting board never got cut marks on it). It is very thin and it has a melted place on the edge from having put it in the dishwasher. Since it is a bit large for the top rack, I assumed it should be put in the bottom rack. Maybe they want you to hand wash it every time you use it. I would not recommend this for long term use.

For an Epicure/Amazon product, it works but not much greater than the dollar store board that I can buy at the dollar store. It does have 4 little feet to keep the board from sliding.

J.A. Henckels 3-Piece Bar Board Set

J.A. Henckels 3-Piece Bar Board SetI have another Henckels knife set which is still in great condition after 4 years. But the blades of these two pieces are thinner and the handles not as sturdy. I used the board for small jobs like cutting fruits etc. Within a month, there appears to be a crack in the middle where the different pieces of wood meet.

After less than 5 months, the cutting board is falling apart at the seams. The wood is separating at the seams. The knives are nice though.

I have a whole set of expensive knives, and then some. I got these to have some good quality utility knives (and a small cutting board to boot).

Had these knives about two years now. They go in the dishwasher all the time and the still cut and do their job very well. Very happy with them for the price. I core tomatoes and peel potatoes and cut bread and do other small food chores with these almost everyday. Going to get another set pretty soon as it appears they're cheaper now than a couple years ago.
