Imusa 8 Inch Chef Knife

Imusa 8 Inch Chef KnifeThere were 2 reviews for this knife before, one of them mine. Now they're gone. So here I go again.

This is a great bargain. I bought it with zero expectations. The intention was to use it purely as a camp knife, something that I wouldn't mind throwing away if it got too rusty or banged up on the trail.

I couldn't be happier. It was relatively sharp from the factory. Not quite tomato-shaving sharp, but sharp enough for most kitchen duties. The blade is rigid enough and the steel is fair. It holds up to sharpening well. After a little grinding, this knife is quite sharp!

The handle is very basic and pretty small. It's like a steak knife handle; perfect for little hands. There was no thought put into the ergonomics: 2 wood planks riveted to the tang. It's easily the least comfortable handle in my entire kitchen, but it's still acceptable.

Bottom Line: For camp duty, this is a home-run. For home use, it's just fair.

I got three of them. They are well made and the price is great. I use them all the time and only hand clean them. I don't soak them in water or soap. I just wipe them clean. They come sharp enough for me. So far they have easily cut through any job.

Oneida Mooncrest 20-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 4

Oneida Mooncrest 20-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 4It's sad. There was a time when Oneida meant quality. Those days are gone--now Oneida is just a nameplate, and its products are manufactured in generic, no name factories in China just like the X brand junk you can get at any budget store.

This set is low quality. The pieces are made from very heavy steel. Why? Because the steel they use is 18/0 stainless, the lowest quality stainless you can get. They have to make the pieces thick or they'll bend. Compare that to my 10 year old Oneida set, made from 18/8 stainless. They're thin and light as a feather because it's high quality steel.

Also, they include an insert in the packaging to tell you not to use these with acidic foods and that they must be washed right away to prevent damage. Why? Because low quality 18/0 stainless will be etched by food, but higher quality stainless (18/8) will not. In other words, don't fall for the hype. If it's cheap junk you want, buy a cheap junk brand and pay a cheap junk price. If you want quality, don't buy Oneida.

The quality and durability is average for sets in this price range.

The appearance is clean and simple.

The soft metal surface does scratch easily. If you have any hard water issues, the smooth surface may show water spots.

If you use any sort of abrasive cleaning, such as a scratch pad, the surface WILL scratch. Hand drying may be necessary.

The knife handles are somewhat heavier than average. The set is heavy enough to prevent bending.

If you are looking for a set in this price range, and avoid the scratching issues mentioned, you'll likely find they are satisfactory.

I have owned this flatware before buying this particular set. The finish stays really shiny even after heavy use. The finish is in no way fragile. The lines of the pieces are beautiful and the weight is just right.

This product looks just like the picture. It matches with just about any decor, the wood stain is a medium shade. I like the size of it, it fits in smaller utensil drawers, since it is made of bamboo it is lightweight. Perfect for people that live alone or with one other person. They make cheap plastic silverwear organizers for this price and they don't look nice. This one looks a bit fancier without paying much at all for it. For these reasons listed prior, I would recommend this product.

Gourmet Settings "Stand By" 20-Piece 18-0 Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4

Gourmet Settings 'Stand By' 20-Piece 18-0 Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 4My wife and I were married in 2002. One of the many many things we picked out was a nice set of everyday flatware. It was a brushed metal set we found really inexpensive at a home store that specializes in "beds, baths and more". The thing I loved about that set was it was very strong. I tried has hard as I could to bend it and there was not even a little even a slight wiggle.

Well, 10 year and 4 kids later, about half the set is left.

I have been looking for the past 5 years to find the perfect replacement, I can't tell you how many sets I looked at.... A LOT.

One day we got invited to a social engadgment. When we sat down to eat, I saw the closest set to what we had. I flipped the fork over and found enough info to find the website and then find this set on Amazon.

So, The good:

* strong. When I try to bend them very hard though not as hard as possible, there is a very slight wiggle. But they are stronger then most flatware on the market.

* Feel. The weight, ballance and design feel nice in your hand.

* simple modern design. I personally don't like flowery and overtly ornate designed flatware. I also prefer the brushed look vs ultra shiny. for my me, the design of this set is really nice for every day use.

* price, at $40 for a 5 pieve set for 4 it is quite a bargain. This isn't a walmart cheap set.

the bad:

* The small fork is SMALL. Like little kid small. It isn't a deal breaker by any means. Though, I think the set would be better if it was slightly bigger.

* Thick. These would be a little better if they were a little thicker. Don't get me wrong, they aren't thin and they are well made. I just wish they were a little thicker.

Ultimately I really like this set. Gourmet Settings has a lot of nice stuff at reasonable prices. Check them out. All things considered, five stars in my book!

And this time we smartened up. We purchased 5 sets. 3 sets to use and 2 extra boxes to replace them as pieces disappear.... i did mention I have 4 kids?!?

Matches the set I oot for my wedding in 2006 but it seems they're thinner and lighter than before and therefore cheaper. :(

I like flatware with some heft. I bought these because I needed another addition to the sets I purchased from Target years ago. Target no longer carries them, but Amazon fixed me right up. This flatware has lasted for years with only minor scratches. It is nice and sturdy with wide enough handles for my paws to comfortably grip them.

Cook at Home Cutlery Set, 15 Piece

Cook at Home Cutlery Set, 15 PieceI bought these knives back in October and they started rusting almost immediately. If you allow them to soak before washing or let them air dry, they will most definitely rust. You must wash and dry these knives immediately after using to minimize rust.

Although I'm disappointed that my knives are already rusting, I'm not too upset or surprised since I didn't spend a lot for them. If you're looking for a cheap knife set they're not bad, but if you expect to have nice knives for years, this is not what you're looking for.

For the price, they're really not bad, but unless you're broke, spend a little more and get something that will last.

Thomas Keller said that a quiche should be baked in a 2-inch deep pan to achieve the right texture. When I purchased this pan, I couldn't locate an 8-inch pan with a 2-inch depth. Chicago Cutlery Fusion 18-Piece Knife Set

ChicagoCutlery Fusion 18-Piece Set including Honey Maple Wood BlockI purchased these knives a couple of months ago after reading all kinds of knife set reviews from every site I could find. These are real nice and sharp! I especially like the santoku knives. They cut and chop tomatoes and onions awesomely. I wasn't too sure about the steak knives as they looked thin compared to the last set of steak knives I had, but after I used them they're are even better! As one reviewer said the larger knives do not line up when sitting in the knife block, but a small thing. They are still a really nice looking set. My son use to work as a chef in a large restaurant and he loved these knives. They are well made and I haven't experienced any rust. They sit in you hand perfectly. I do not put them in the dishwasher as I want them to last. If you want a nice set of knives without the high price, these are for you.

Well after searching and searching, reading review and reading reviews I decided on this set. I ordered them from at first and then found them cheaper $ shipped at so I canceled and ordered from them. Received the set and right away I knew I was going to love these knifes. Well balanced, well weighted, and feel great in hand. I was a little worried that the poly grip handles were going to be squishy but they are not at all. Just a very slight give and feels soft to the touch. I actually really like the poly grip handles. The steak knife handles are a little thin but still work great. The blades are nice and strong and sharp right out of the box. Spend a few seconds on each one with the included sharpening Steel and they just get shaper. There is only ONE thing that is somewhat bothering to me and most would laugh about this but when you place all the knifes in the storage block they don't line up perfect like the picture shows. After trying to rearrange the knifes you just can't get them to line up. This has nothing to do with the quality of the knifes and with me being extremely hard to please. This only bothered me for 5 minutes and I decided this set is WAY to nice especially for the price to let this bother me. They kind of make a rainbow shape when placed in the storage block so it looks ok. Like I said I am hard to please when it comes to quality of a product and this set pleases me. I have looked at many sets before purchasing this set and for only $129.95 I truly believe you will NOT find a better set. Maybe even for more money. I highly recommend you give them a try.

Can't really go wrong with this (made in China) set. For the price, that is.

These are heavy, well balanced, forged knives, blades made of rust-resistant, reasonably good quality high-carbon stainless steel. On the box it says that they are 'fusion forged' but I have no idea what that means. The specialized knives come with a black polymer, 'non slip' soft grip. The stake knives have stainless steel handles.

The Santoku and Partoku knives come with oval indents that are meant to allow food to release from the blade. All knives feature forged bolsters for better balance and to keep fingers from running up on the blade.

You get the following knives:

7.75" chef knife

7" Santoku (slice, dice, chop and mince)

8" Slicer

3.5" Parer

3" Peeler

7.75" Bread

5" Partoku (smaller than the Santoku, combines the convenience of a paring knife with the versatility of the Santoku)

5" Utility

4.25" Steak (8 of these)

And, of course, there is the sharpening tool.

While clearly not 'high end', and no one should expect 'chef' knives at this price, they appear to be durable. The block is solid, heavy wood and there is also a sharpener. And this set comes with some of the sharpest steak knives I've seen. The only issue I have but it's no big deal, really, is that the handles tend to be a little small.

Be aware that this set does not necessarily come with Omaha Stakes coupons. Mine didn't and I didn't expect one. I mention this because at least one review mentions an $80 coupon.

I have had this set of knives for over a year now and still love them. I use them several times each week for making meals and they have stayed quite sharp. It only takes a few seconds and a few swipes along the sharpening blade every time I pull a knife out of the block, and I can cut through a potato as easily as I can cut through butter. I too use the santoku knife more than the others as it is a great size and feels very well-balanced for slicing and chopping. Having previously used cheaper knives, I wanted to see if it really was worth the money to buy a set like this. I can say without a doubt that this has been an excellent investment and I highly reccommend this set of knives.

Want Chicago Cutlery Fusion 18-Piece Knife Set Discount?

The majority of the blades arrived in great condition. The Chef's knife, the 5" Santoku, and the paring knife all had notches in the blades and required me to sharpen with a whetstone before use. The knives feel good in my hands, and slide right through a full sized watermelon, hard veggies, or a steak with ease. Someone else likely would have returned the knives because of the notches, but I did not because I was able to get them out and get the blade into better condition than the manufacturer. The metal plate over the knife block should be of concern... if you are trying to put away a knife and accidentally stick it into the metal you could damage the knife. I do not feel as though these knives will last long, but for now as long as I maintain the cutting edge they should serve their purpose.

Mac Knife Chef Series Slicing Chef's Knife, 8-1/2-Inch

Mac Knife Chef Series Slicing Chef's Knife, 8-1/2-InchI love knifes.

This MAC is the first MAC I bought and it's awesome. It's very very light and one of the "go to" knives my finace grabs. The blade is very thin, allowing it to make quick work of dicing onions, cutting vegetables and mincing herbs. Personally, I never use any of my japonese knives for boning chicken, smashing garlic or any other "rough" use, but this knife is great for everything else.

I have maybe 12+ knives at home from my japanese collectoin (global, miyabi, shun) to my western knives (henckel, wusthof, etc...). From my 5" santoku to my 10" chef, I mix and match based on my mood and what I'm cutting. I grab this one often for vegetables and slicing cooked steaks (no bones).

Strengths:

1) Super sharp

2) Super light

3) Great price point

4) Hard metal (holds edge well for such a thin blade)

Weaknesses:

1) Angle of blade is not western, probably closer to 16-degrees so you need to sharpen accordingly. Additionally, most honing rods might not be hard enough to hone this strong metal. (Note: I don't know how hard this metal is);

2) Not advised (personally) for frozen items or anything hard as the blade is thin.

I gave this as a gift to my partner, and he treasures it. It keeps an edge really well, handles very well. feels great in the hand.

YOSHIHIRO- Shiroko-Kasumi Yanagi Sashimi Knife Octagonal Shitan Handle 11.7" (300mm)

YOSHIHIRO- Shiroko-Kasumi Yanagi Sashimi Knife Octagonal Shitan Handle 11.7'I just finally got a chance to sit down and sing my praises to this product. I am one of the only 2 "white boy" rollers at my sushi bar and all of the other chefs, myself included have been amazed by the quality of the knife and its ability to hold an edge through 2 entire 8 hour shifts. compared to my previous knife this blade is at least 45% lighter, preventing fatigue and making most of my other cutlery feel like boat anchors. All-in-all excellent knife and beautiful craftsmanship.

There's really not much I can complain about this product. I was in the market for a sushi knife to be used everyday as I work long hours. After shopping around and constantly changing my mind I ended up picking this one because the rosewood handle caught my eye. I even did my research on different knives I was consider buying. I actually ordered a 10.5" Yoshihiro yanagi similar to this one, but with a Water Buffalo Horn / Magnolia handle, but canceled that order right away after discovering this product. I love the sharpness of the product right out of the packaging and consistently stays sharp for a good amount of time before having to sharpen it on a whetstone. I recommend you do pay attention to the knife care and use the tsubaki oil they provide so the product doesn't rust. I really enjoy the weight and balance of the knife, considering it's 11.7 inches. The handle feels solid and the etching on the knife is flawless. I plan on using this product everyday, and wanted something that I could be proud of using.

I would recommend this product to anybody looking for a sashimi yanagi. Although if you are a beginner a shorter length would be better.

John Boos 10 by 10 by 2-Inch Mezzaluna Herb Board with Stainless Steel Rocker KnifeThis was just what I was looking for, very good quaility product

and a quick shippment. I love it and use it often.

I received this as a gift recently. I have wanted a mezzaluna and poof! This is a beauty. It is a perfect size and the stainless steel rocker "knife" is wonderful because of the double blades. It is very sharp and will make quick work of what you are chopping.

So far I have used it to chop onions, garlic, herbs, nuts, and coconut. It is my newest toy. The wood is simply stunning and you find that you want to display it. If it was a little larger I could use it to put my collection of tops in and also as a spinning area for my tops. Everyone who has been over for dinner and watches me pull it out of my walk-in pantry gushes with compliments. It looks that good and it is that practical.

Edgeware V-Slot 10-Second Knife and Scissors Sharpener

Edgeware V-Slot 10-Second Knife and Scissors SharpenerWhen it comes to sharpening knives, I must admit that it's not one of my best talents... period.

I've tried sharpening kitchen knives, Swiss Army knives and the blades on multi-tools for years with sharpening steel implements and stones, and have had very inconsistent results with each of them, no matter how many different techniques that I've used. Then a few years back a friend introduced me to the very basic yellow handled Smith Abrasives Jiffy Sharpener, and for the first time I was able to put a reasonable cutting edge on my kitchen knives and scissors. Within 30 seconds I was sold, and that weekend bought my first one. The key to this tool is that it provided a proper sharpening angle on a blade every time.

If this sounds like a blurb for some "As Seen On TV" spot, it's not meant to. I'm posting this because there have to be others out there who have had similar problems trying to find a no-hassle solution to this household and handyman dilema.

The newer, more refined version of the original is the Smith's Abrasive V-Slot 10 Second Knife and Scissors Sharpener, and it does exactly the same thing as the original version, but adds a rubberized handle for better control and comfort. It also adds non-slip rubber feet for stability.

Both of these devices will basicly put a good, sharp edge onto almost any blade, and will do so by passing the blade through the "V" in the head, which allows the replaceable tungsten carbide cutters to remove metal from the blade. Do this three or four times and you'll feel less resistance, then your blade is sharp.

The downside to all of this is that you're not really honing the blade, which is the correct way to treat it. You're removing metal from the blade, and if you overdo it, you can wear out a good knife blade before its time, so use it judiciously if you have good knives. If you have a small sharpening stone, such as the Smith's Arkansas Stone, you can "touch up" the blade and put a shiny chef's edge on the blade as a final step.

If your knives are really dull, these devices will do a nice job of reshaping the blade edge so that they're serviceable again, and they'll do it in just a few seconds. But as with all new implements,

be sure to RTFM... (Read The Flaming Manual) before you proceed.

These implements really shine when it comes to sharpening scissors that have become dull and/or have lost their edge, and both versions can be used with right or left-handed scissors. The scissors sharpener is located in the handle, and employs a floating sharpening rod thast will put the correct edge back on almost any scissors by drawing them through this section as listed in the instructions.

Pros:

* Does the job of sharpening your blades very quickly.

* Reasonably priced solution that does its job well.

* Restores the edge to worn out blades

* Does a great job sharpening scissors.

Cons:

* Removes more metal from a blade than a stone or steel.

If your knives or scissors have become dull with use, then either of these sharpeners from Smith's will do the job. For those unlike me who are adept at using a conventional sharpening steel to hone a fine professional edge to a knife blade, you might look for the Smith's Abrasive Standard Sharpening Steel, a 9-inch version of a conventional sharpening steel with an oversized hand guard and a hang ring.

Should your sharpening needs be more geared to items like Swiss Army knives or multi-tools from Gerber, Leatherman or Victorinox, then the Gerber DF6 Compact Sharpener might be a good alternative. This one is also easy to use, and features perfect 30 degree edges quickly and easily every time.

It's been said many times that the most dangerous knife is the one that's not sharp. Look at the specs for each of these and see which fits your needs best. The top two from Smith's are excellent choices if you find sharpening your knives to be a challenge. Whichever one of these 5-star implements you choose, remember to read the instructions carefully before use... and think sharp!

Who doesn't wish their scissors were sharper? This is the fix. Now all my scissors are sharp, and will remain so.

GOOD POINTS:

-The angle of the sharpening stone to the scissors blade is fixed, so you never make a mistake.

-The stone is pretty good, so you gently draw the scissors over it repeatedly and get great results.

-You can open them wide to get almost all the way to the hinge, and by slightly compressing them, you can sharpen both blades evenly.

DRAWBACKS:

-You can't remove the stone, so as it wears, the tool becomes useless. But I may not live that long, so it's a small problem. Plus, the thing's only, like, 6 or 7 bucks. Still, it would be nice if the stone slot were capped by, say, a setscrew, so you could change stones.

-This is built for a right-hander sharpening right-hand scissors, or vice-versa. It's just a bit klutzy when your preferred hand does not match the parity of the scissors. But this is also minor.

I looked at 20 different sharpeners. Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, this rocks! [even on paper! rocks/scissors/paper :-) ]

Buy Edgeware V-Slot 10-Second Knife and Scissors Sharpener Now

Great product for everyday use. Not a good recomendation for an expensive artisanal knife which you do not remove metal but just align the edge, but it definetely works for cheap stainless knives and scissors. I can use that paper cutters, too. I revived single use knives and almost-dumped out scissors, and saved my money. I'm very happy with the results.

I am a mechanical engineer. I looked at a bunch of units online. The quality of the unit was good for the price and the instruction were easy to read and follow.

I liked one of the reviews here noting this class of sharpener is not re-edging but honing. That explained a bunch of what was going on with these vs the more expensive grinders. I think it is worth noting that you can only grind so many times before wearing out the blade (while Honing can be done much more often), and that Honing would appear to not work on a notched blade.

Anyway I tried these on some short bladed pruners and a some expensive sewing scissors. The wife is very happy with both results and pronounced them both "much better". Anechdotal evidence at best, but if she's happy, I'm happy.

The Edgeware V-slot sharpener puts a decent edge on dull blades.

It's difficult to add more to my review, because my only other

experience is with electric sharpeners. As a manual sharpener,

the product does a pretty good job. It's a real bargain for the

price, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a simple,

easy-to-use manual sharpener.

Birchware Compostable Assorted Utensils (160mm) 24pcs.

Birchware Compostable Assorted Utensils 24pcs.I have to admit that I was very positively surprised to find that Birchware utensils are sturdy enough to compete with plastic utensils.

I ordered an assorted package to distribute samples to our local music festival organizers with whom my committee is working on implementing a zero waste initiative since last year (2012). Since we are collecting food waste we were looking for utensils that were compostable. I'm happy to report that the utensils past our scrutiny and that of the festival directors and they will now order a big number to provide them to the vendors at the festival a good faith effort in order to convince the vendors that this is the way to go in the future.

Unlike an earlier reviewer, we could not find any wood splinters on any of the utensil. They are smooth, do not taste of wood (unless you use it as a lolly-pop?). By comparison, Birchware utensils were actually sturdier and smoother than Aspenware. i suggest you order both to make up your mind.

For now I will give it 4-stars since I wish the fork prongs were a little longer )but this could perhaps compromise the sturdiness of it?).

I will update my review later in July 2013 when we had the opportunity to ask the audience for feedback!

Don't hesitate you will love this alternative to plastic!

I have been researching different compostable utensils for my new restaurant that is operating with "zero waste". I found the Birchware to be very functional for a wood utensil. The wood texture is definitely different than plastic, but not a bad different, just different. The fork worked fine for salads, potatoes and meat. Although carrots were hard to stab, which is pretty much true for any non-metal utensil. I found the knife to be very useful. We cut into a fairly tough skinned bratwurst and the serrated edge cut right through. It cut through a steak and baked potato just fine. I isn't a steak knife, so it wasn't a clean line, but it did the job plastic or cornware would do and it only takes 60 days to compost in a home composting system. I'm sold and will be using it in my restaurant.

Used these for my daughter-in-law's baby shower. She is an environmentalist and these were perfect to support her feelings. Thanks!

Zwilling JA Henckels TWIN Pro-S Hollow-Edge Santoku

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S 7-Inch Santoku Knife with Hollow EdgeFirst, not sure what reviewers are talking about-sounds like some of them received the wrong knife and did not return it, but I'll speak specifically on the J.A. Henckels Pro S 7" Santoku Knife with Hollow Edge.

I own several knives, but I find that I use this one almost exclusively-it cuts through anything with ease and minimal force-I've used it on chicken, beef, pork chops, onions, peppers, garlic, ginger, carrots, broccoli, grapefruit... I could go on, but I suspect you get the point (and I wanted to emphasize-these are thought of as vegetable knives-it cuts through anything with ease, though I haven't-and won't-try it through bone). The only problem with it is that it cuts so well, I have to be careful not to cut things too small because its so easy to work with!

I also find that things I'd normally use a paring knife for, like mincing garlic, I'm using this. Additionally, per advertisement, nothing sticks to the side of the blade due to the hollowed out grooves. Not really sure how it works, but I don't really care. This is really a superb knife and has taken its place as my main all purpose knife.

You need to make sure that you have the "PRO S" version of this knife as Henckels has several 7-Inch Santoku knives with hollow edge and they had been shipping wrong ones in the past. However, they might have straightened out their act after I reported the mistake to their customer service. So, please, please make sure you knife says "PRO S" and has a twin tribal men on the logo.

As some of the previous reviewers posted (and some had been deleted), Amazon had been listing the wrong item here. Many people were purchasing the Henckels International Classic 7-Inch Santoku Knife with Hollow Edge, not "Part of the Pro S series of cutlery" as stated in the Amazon product review by Cristina Vaamonde or the "J.A. Henckels Professional S 7 inch Santoku knife with hollow edge" as stated in the Amazon product description. And even though the photo of the product shows the double Henckels men, the knife being shipped only had one Henckels man...another indication that it's not worth $74.99-$84.99 Amazon price or the $110.00 retail price it's listing. The International Classic knife can be purchased at Target, JCPenny and a whole bunch of other stores for the retail price of $39.99. If you paid $74.99-84.99 for the wrong knife, please get your money back!!!

My husband purchased the Pro S Santoku knife as a gift. I had been drooling over them for a year, but thought the expense was too much to put out "for a knife". But, since I am always cooking, and we felt it was a wise investment,I finally received one. I do not look at knives in the same way any longer.

First, let me say that without a doubt, the investment is WORTH IT. I knew this the first slice I made through a potato. It was as if I were cutting through butter with a hot knife. So smooth so quick. I was amazed.

Once I got used to how sharp it is (was actually proud of my first cut) and how to handle it, there is no stopping to what I can cut. I use it on vegetables of all kinds, cubing beef, and even slicing through thick sandwiches. I make sure I use the truing blade, and it's as if I just purchased it.

I am so pleased with Henckles, that I now own the cleaver, paring knife, and chef's knife. My husband and I have decided to collect the Pro S line for our kitchen. Great quality, solid handles, even weight and swift through anything you put them to. Would recommend to anyone who is looking to invest in their kitchen's hardware. I know I will be pleased with them for many years to come.

Unlike some reviewers, I did get the Pro S knife. It is an excellent knife. Good balance, feels good in the hand, very sharp and chops wallnuts as good as anything I have used. I would highley recommend this knife to anyone who appreciates good equipment in the kitchen!

Just purchased this as another step towards the Pro S set I am building. I must say that I was extremely impressed with the ease this knife chops, cubes and dices. It is RAZOR sharp out of the box, and has the nice santoku shape.

I can forsee this knife being the most used out of the entire set very versatile and easy to use.

Can't speak for longevity, but it is very well built, and I see nothing preventing this knife from lasting 40+ years.

Great job on this one, Henckels!

Norpro 572 Lettuce Knife, Green

Norpro 572 Lettuce Knife, GreenI often need to cut lettuce ahead of the time for my husband's lunch and needed a way to cut it that would not lead to brown spoiled lettuce. I have found that the Norpro Lettuce knife works great for this purpose. Great price and a nice addition to have in the kitchen.

Calphalon Katana Cutlery 18-Piece Set

Calphalon Katana Cutlery 18-Piece SetI have large hands, so the Katana/Santoku style gives me more room than most styles. The blade "twists" 90 degrees to become the core of the handle. It is a full tang design that is quite beautiful to look at. The acid etching adds to that appeal (which you really can't fully appreciate in the photos). They are well balanced and I work them better than anything else I have owned to date. I will not be looking for anything else while this set is still around.

They are made of a slightly softer steel than most professional grade cutlery I have used, but they sharpen easier because of that. All around I am beyond pleased and would recommend them at full price, so that makes them a bargain if you can shave off some $c-notes$ here at Amazon!

I spent about a month looking around at various shops for a great set of knives. This is what I ended up ordering, They are razor sharp! The material is made of thirty-three layers of stainless steel, has an outstanding ability to retain an edge and proven strength with VG-1.

Nothing feels better in your hand than these handles, they are not made for small hand though but for me they feel great. The material used to make the knife handle is much more important than you might think. Wooden handles have a tendency to rot or corrode. A corroded handle will make the blade fit loosely, which can be dangerous. These feel and great they are less likely to break than many other handles and are not overly heavy.

The way that a knife handle is designed is important. The part of the blade that goes into the handle (called the tang) should go all the way through on both sides. Many knife tangs only go part of the way through the knife's handle or on one side. This may cause the blade to come loose, but this has a full tang. They are well balanced and you need that to make sure you don't cut your self

Cutting with these tools is great since slicing is so easy.. I have tried with other knives, but never got as good of results as with this set. These are worth every penny, but do take care of them! They do need hand washing.

i got these to replace a department store brand set of knives I had for 8 years. OMG! even with all the sharpening i did to my old knives, these cut through things like they were hot butter! i'm an enthusiast cook in the kitchen (by no means a chef) so these live in "my domain". my favorite knives to use are the santoku and nakiri. claimed as VG-1, my small paring knife's tip bent a good deal when it slipped onto my granite countertop (ugh). still, i enjoy the balance, look, and feel of these knives. don't let them sit in water for a long time, they'll rust. AVOID dishwasher so as not to void the warranty. hand wash and dry immediately for longer life...and looks!

Magmates Double Storage

Magmates Double Storage, BlackI bought the green, orange and blue. Works well and puts a smile on my face when I walk into my kitchen! 4.5 Stars is simply because I wish they were a bit less expensive. The blue is a nice blue, however it is considerably darker (still a happy bright color) than the photo. A real positive is that you can remove the exterior skin to wash it. This was my first installation with a drill and it went well. I have a magnetic knife bar at one end of my kitchen and these I have moving vertically up a wall across from my stove at the other end of the room ~ so I can have two people cooking and preping at the same time even in my tiny kitchen.

This magnet wouldn't hold my measuring spoons! It would need to be a lot stronger for me to give it a good review. Waste of money.

We redid our kitchen last year and I couldn't find a decent 10 inch knife holder. These are not only cute with their little inset smiley face, but they work and are far more interesting than a metal strip. Love 'em!

It is very convenient, and holds my very heavy knifes, great product, however, wait until lowers its price, as $14 dollars can be a bit toooooo expensive for what you get.
