If you are considering a knife sharpening system I highly recommend Norton stones over electric sharpeners. The stone takes a minimum amount of steel off your knives compared to electric sharpeners. An electric sharpener takes the same amount of steel off the blade every pass. You will replace your knives much quicker with an electric sharpener. Protect your investment!I have been working in the professional kitchen for a few years now, and I have used these exact items both in culinary school and in restaurants. I love it, and it's well worth the investment.
A steel merely HONES the edges of a blade, aligning the feathered bits of steel that get ground into the edge of the blade over periods of use or sharperning. This tri-stone truly sharpens even the dullest knives to a razor sharp edge. I use this for my home knives, as well as my pro kitchen knives. It does take a little bit of time to get used to, to get the right angle, etc, but is ultimately easy and self-explanitory. The safest knife is a sharp knife.the 3 way sharpening stone is great for putting a new edge on your culinary knives. The only downside is you have to be trained in using the stones as sharpeners. There are very little directions in using this product.I have wanted a Norton oilstone knifesharpener since I started to work in a butcher shop at age 14.There is none better than a Norton,it's what the pros use. This is a must have for any chef. Everywhere I have worked I have had the privilege of using these stones and they work great. I do not have one for the home yet but after the Christmas season I plan on getting one. I must also agree with the reviewer who stated that you must have knowledge on how to use this. If you are new to this then you will have a difficult time.

I got this knife about 5 years ago while working on a line. about a year of use before I quit my job thinking I wasn't going back to a kitchen. so when instead of buying a can opener like a normal person this knife was used as a can opener for a year.... I returned to the kitchen after owning this knife for 3 years and was amazed that I was able to sharpen this knife back to be a real cooking tool, after stabbing into cans. about 2 years back in the kitchen this knife is not far off from perfect, even the tip. I can only imagine how it would be if I had taken care of it.BUILT Neoprene Spicy Relish Lunch Tote
I wanted a decent looking lunch bag that did not look like a child's. One issue I had when searching was no shoulder strap on most. I came across this and it is perfect. It is a tad pricey but I love it! (As much as you can love a lunch bag)This lunch tote is nice and roomy, but not bulky. Its sleek, and stylish. I have gotten many compliments on it. Keeps food items cold (there is a little side pocket for an ice pack.) I highly recommend this lunch tote for anyone who needs a new lunch bag!!Buy BUILT Neoprene Spicy Relish Lunch Tote Now
I love that it's washable. And, of course, it's so very sleek and stylish. I only wish it was a *little* bigger (but not much bigger I chose it because it's small and compact). I can pack lunch and 2 snacks in it, all in plastic containers, and that usually fits, but add anything else and it probably won't close. If I packed the snacks in sandwich bags, it'd probably fit more, but my personal preference is using reusable containers over throwing out plastic bags every day. It does stretch a good bit, though, and sometimes surprises me with how it can fit more than I expect.Read Best Reviews of BUILT Neoprene Spicy Relish Lunch Tote Here
First off, I love how vibrant the colors are on this lunch tote. They simply pop out at you. There is a pocket on the inside that is perfect for cutlery. The storage capacity of this lunch tote never ceases to amaze me. I have fit a can of fruit cocktail, a can of coca cola, and two food containers inside with room to spare. Items inside the tote stay relatively cool if kept out of the fridge, but I always keep mine in the refrigerator at work. Love the strap so you can carry it over the shoulder. The handles on the tote are okay, but I have to wrestled my hands out of them sometimes. Too bad I cannot put my hands on a diet. Totally love this tote! Well worth the price!I want to make a note too of how soft this tote is. I would not recommend this tote or any other Built lunch tote similar in design to this, because unless items inside are protected by a container they are very well apt to be crushed or smashed. I guess the same goes with adults too maybe.Had a smaller version and loved it. But a good sized salad was a tight fit so I got a larger one and one for my husband. Love them. Washable air dry so they stay clean. Stretchy so they adapt to any shape container.
Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Meat Fork
I got tired of my cheap forks either bending, rusting, or not being strong enough to really use with confidence. I searched Amazon for a decent meat fork, and so glad I found this one--it's fantastic! It is long enough to use it to reach into the oven or down into a larger pot, and is incredibly strong--nothing is going to bend it or fall off. It cleans up easily and looks elegant if left out/seen . . . just so happy with it and plan to try more Henckels utensils.I've been looking for a good meat fork for a long time!!! This meat fork isn't too heavy for your hand, yet it's very sturdy and well balanced!! It's even pretty. It gives you confidence to pick up anything and get it to the plate or use it to turn over something your frying. I LOVE it!! The construction is one of my favorite parts, it's all in one piece, which contributes to not worrying about the handle breaking or coming loose. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. After this review I'm ordering another one. :)Buy Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Meat Fork Now

J.A. Henckels 17-1/2-Inch Magna Bar, Black
This product was a major disappointment. The magnetic strip itself is excellent, but it's built around a very flimsy plastic framework with plastic ends that mount on the wall. The problem is that the plastic frame very quickly warps with the force required to remove the knives from the strong magnets, creating a rocking motion that helps work the hardware out of the wall.
Now I have a couple of big holes in my wall, and I need to replace this product before it falls apart. I'm very disappointed..to wish you had a better way of keeping your kitchen scalpels organized.
Seriously, I thought this bar would be just the thing to help me organize my too-small kitchen which is always strewn with knives, bottle openers, spatulae, whisks, and other kitchen implements. I also wanted something to keep my sharp knives away from my hands so that I could reach for things on the counter without worrying about stabbing myself.
This magnetic strip fits the bill perfectly. I was worried at first that it wouldn't be a strong enough magnet to hold my chef's knife, but it is. The knife is held very securely and forms a tight magnetic "seal" that breaks when you twist the knife away from it. If you bump the knife, it just rotates on the magnet you'd have to be a real klutz to whack it hard enough to knock it off by accident. ...
I was also worried that the metal magnet would nick my knife edges. That's not a problem as long as you're careful how you put the knife on (back edge first).
I recommend this product without any reservations!

I live in an apartment with a tiny, galley-style kitchen. I have next to NO counter space. I was fed up with having the small piece of counter next to my stove filled up with a spice rack AND a knife rack AND a utensils jar.I found the Henckel's magnabar here on amazon and gave it a try. Now I am not your Miss Fix-It type so maybe others would not have this problem, but I found it awkward to mount this thing on the wall next to my stove. The end caps of the bar, which you use to set the screws in, and the top and bottom edging of the bar are plastic and rather flimsy. By the time I got the bar up and stable, one edge of the magnabar had bent/come loose. After sinking the screws into my wall, I didn't want to stop and return it, so I just put the "bad side" back toward the corner where it won't be as noticeable.
I do really enjoy having more counter space and all the knives lined up on the bar looks great, but I have to admit I expected a higher quality product from Henckels.

I used this magnet for 7 years and found it to be an excellent home for my quality knives. Take note--it is a *strong* magnet with a powerful grip, and this is a double-edged knife (pardon the pun). On the one hand, blades are held firmly in place no matter their weight, and I never had issues with knives being accidentally knocked off the wall. As my magnet was mounted next to my refrigerator, this was important, and the magnet performed like a champ. On the other hand, it does require you to learn a technique to remove knives easily without marring the blades or pulling out the mounting hardware. As other reviewers have noted, the magnet mounts by placing two screws in drywall anchors in your wall, and the plastic end-caps then slide over the screws. Put in one screw, mount the cap, slide the magnet onto the cap, then slide the other cap on and you're done. However, the smaller, cheaper drywall anchors included with this magnet are not that tough, and don't handle routine pulling well. I lived in a house with cheap drywall and in seven years never had any problems with pulling out mounting hardware--the trick is learning the correct technique for detaching the knives. Instead of wrenching them from the magnet (which I agree, takes considerable force, especially with my chef's knife and santoku), I would twist the edge away from the magnet while leaving the blade spine against the magnet. This creates rotational force directly against the magnet/wall without stressing the mounting hardware one bit, and once the magnet has less surface area to hang onto, it takes very little force to remove the spine from the magnet. I just bought another kitchen magnet (we moved cities, and I couldn't find the Henckel at my local store) and while the magnet takes less force to remove knives from, my heavier blades tend to slide down the magnet to rest on the counter, which I don't like. Additionally, I am concerned that my heavier blades could be accidentally knocked off, especially with handles resting on the counter--hit them with a cookie sheet or skillet and *bam*, they drop right off the magnet. Dangerous. I'm going back to Henckel for it's stronger grip. Note that I am deducting a star for the mounting hardware--it is entirely possible to include drywall anchors that hold very well, even when being pushed/pulled repeatedly. There was no need for Henckel to cheap out. Include a better anchor and you'd get 5 stars from everyone here.Bought this for my dad for christmas and installed it in about 2 minutes. He has a tile backsplash that I didn't want to drill into if I could help it, so I used 2 layers of some good double stick tape and it worked great. I thought the weight of the knives might pull it off, but going on a month with no problems. The magnet works great and has a "professional look" that one would expect from Henckel.Knork (Knife and Fork Comb.) Stainless Steel--Duo Finish
Farberware Pro Forged 8-Inch Chef Knife with Clear Sheath
I like to cook and at home we have Shun stainless steel, Sabatier carbon steel and Forschner/Victorinox stainless steel knives in the kitchen. I bought the Farberware 8" Chef's Knife and 3 1/2" Paring Knife to throw in my checked bags when I travel. I like to cook or eat in for breakfast and frequently dinner. I don't want to take my knife roll with Sabatier knives with me so after reading several reviews I ordered these. One thing I really liked was that they come with a plastic sheath / blade protector so I didn't have to buy those separately. The other thing I liked was the price of less than $20 for two forged kitchen knives. The knives are surprisingly attractive and well balanced with a nice heft and well fitted handles, rivets, and bolster. The blades show grind marks but that doesn't affect the functionality or the overall appearance. At this price I didn't really expect the company to polish the blades to a mirror finish. They were pretty sharp when they arrived but a few minutes on a water stone got them very sharp. I use the Paring Knife more than the Chef's Knife and it has held an edge pretty well on this trip with daily use. I don't have a steel with me so I can't re-align the edge after each use to keep it as sharp as I would at home.
I would highly recommend these knives for anyone looking for a basic set of decent quality kitchen knives but doesn't want to take out a second mortgage to get them. I also like the Forschner/Victorinox line of kitchen knives with the Fibrox handles for an inexpensive alternative to Shun, Wusthof, etc. They are stamped and are lighter but very good quality.Perfect balance, excellent handle, one-piece steel the length of the knife. A Joy to use! Very sharp, easy to clean.

Wusthof Classic Carving Knife
I've tried other knives but this one is far superior. I would recommend this purchase. This long slicing knife has recently been added to my Wusthof knives and I am very pleased with the addition. This knife serves my needs when slicing large hams, roasts and other pieces of meat. It is large enough to do the job on a watermelon and still fits easily in my Wusthof knife block.Wusthof knives are classic -sturdy, well made, retain their edge and easy to hone or sharpen. A wonderful knife with a myriad of uses, I am happy with this new addition to my other Wusthof knives.I have used many knives over the past 35 years and was introduced to these knives by a German Neuropathologist. For me, Each knife lasts about 5 to 6 years before it is ground down too much in my experience. For a home owner would much longer. One to two times a week I sharpen them with Arkansas stones and then strop them. They hold an edge that would shave hair. I am switching over to Japanese stones as will give an even better edge. The steel is of excellent quality. The handles hold up to washing in a diswasher or autoclave. I have bought the knives with Ikon handles for my daughter. They are slightly easier to clean.
Dexter-Russell (S134PCP) - 3" Boston-Style Oyster Knife - Sani-Safe Series
I earn my living as a cook. Every restaurant I've needed to shuck oysters in has these knives. This one was for my personal collection. I don't know what I'd do without it. It makes opening oysters a relatively easy operation, provides a good grip and plenty of leverage. I would recommend this for home users and pro's alike. Save your money and buy this instead of the Wusthof or JA Henckel models, it does the same thing for 1/4 of the price. This knife is made to last a lifetime. The handle is designed for a solid grip and the rigid blade makes for a great oyster knife. I have owned the 4 inch version of this knife for about 20 years and I tend to prefer the extra length but both do the job better than any other knife I've used.Buy Dexter-Russell (S134PCP) - 3" Boston-Style Oyster Knife - Sani-Safe Series Now

First these are made by a Chinese Company contracted to produce under and old American cutlery name so they aren't an American product . They are stamped steel . The metal in these knives is only fair in hardness and durability . The larger knives do a fair job but edge holding will not be a key point . If a cheap set of cutlery is what you can afford these are fair but there is Tramontina cutlery (many items produced in the U.S. too) which is a better cutlery and still cheap . I have had a set of those for 25 years and they are good cheap cutlery . The Steak knives in this set are a joke, get ready to sharpen them right out of the box . They do have comfortable handles though . I have used the screw driver on the shears to tighten screws on a couple cooking pans . I honestly bought these to take on picnics etc. and if one is lost I don't lose that much . If you can afford better I would recommend in stamped cutlery the Victorinox brand . Have those and although the blades are thin their heat treating and chill methods make a superior blade that's almost as good as a forged blade . They do cost a bit more though . I have tried to write a very honest review so hope it doesn't sound too negative . I do reside in Illinois and feel it's a shame a once great American cutlery company has become a basically a second rate company contracting it's products .For a very inexpensive knife set, these serve very well. The blades seem to stay sharp for a long time. We don't use the steak knives much because I have a set of those we like very well, but I use the kitchen shears frequently, as well as the paring knives and the 7 inch knife. The kitchen shears are fantastic. I want to pick up a couple spare pairs. They wash very easily and I use them instead of a knife to cut up chicken breasts for tacos, on tortillas to make corn chips and anything else I can think of instead of using a knife!

I'm not a professional chef by any means, but I know a good and bad knife when I see one. I trusted this knife set, based on my past experience with Chicago Cutlery and their reputation in general. Things have changed...The blade on these knives are fantastic. I love the design of the blade, the weight/feel of it and they are very sharp. What really disappointed me are the handles on these knives. The handle is made of a very cheap plastic. I've had cheap, generic knife sets that had better quality handles. But the handle did not even come to the end of the full-tang blade. The end of the blade comes out just past the end of the handle, and mine had VERY sharp metal edges on the end of the blade. I could cut my finger on those alone.
I tried to convince myself that I was just being too picky, but then I decided "No... this is not what I expect from Chicago Cutlery", and returned them. I then ordered a set of Fine Edge Synergy knives from J.A. Henckels. WOW. THESE are knives. I paid $20 more, but that's nothing for the quality of the Henckels knives. I'm going to go write that review now... it'll be 5 stars.
Bottom line... if you don't care about the appearance or finishing touches on knives, these are very sharp, quality blades. Too bad they have such a cruddy handle attached.
Stanton Trading 12 by 18 by 1/2-Inch Cutting Board, Brown
I have bought this cutting board in three different sizes, all brown. I haven't used them as they are intended (brown would be for cooked meat, I think), but purchased them because they match my countertops. I'm not giving them five stars because I was dismayed to discover that scatches from knives leave white cut marks in the surface; however, after receiving the first one i still ordered two more because I discovered that rubbing them with mineral oil turns the marks back to brown.I had an unusual need and use for this product but it has worked out extremely well.I needed it as a lap board (desk) for a brand new (and rather large) laptop (A Dell Inspiron 17R limited edition) I just purchased. Since I do most of my laptop computing from the couch, I needed a solid flat surface to rest both the cooling fan base and the laptop itself upon. So I velcroed the fan/base to the Stanton cutting board and everything has worked out perfectly in filling my need.
The surface is a lightly textured plastic and will not any mar wooden surface. The board does not flex or bend under any conditions, remaining both rigid and solid on my lap.
For what it's worth, I also have a few of these (in different sizes and colors) in my kitchen and they also work really well in the task they were designed for!!!
I would not hesitate to purchase this product again for either knife work in the kitchen or computing in the den!

Pumpkin Masters Classic Carving Pumpkin Carving Kit, 19 Pieces (Patterns may vary)
These arrived fast, that was really nice. The problem is that they are good for 1 to 2 pumpkins and then the tools start to bend and are basically worthless.this is a really wonderful kit. I often wanted a bigger saw to do the bigger portions of my pattern so that my hand would be less tired of using the tiny one. this way i can keep the tiny one for the details. and as always, the scooper kicks butt! got a great sharp edge on it that really enables you to scrape away those insides and get it nice and thin before you start your carving. this kit has got all you need! (besides the pumpkin haha) be aware though, that this listing is more for the tools than for the patterns. if you're looking at the patterns in the images and really want one that you see, ask the seller if thats the one they have first. because the manufacturer uses the same upc for all the kits with the same tools even though the patterns vary, so if you don't check with the seller you could get a kit with the same tools, but different patterns than you saw in the picture. I always had one of these in my kitchen, and at some point over the years I lost it. I was very glad to see that these are still available. You can section grapefruit with other utensils, but this tool makes it so much easier. One end of this product has a double blade with a small slit between the blades. Grapefruit fibers get caught between these blades and are difficult to clean. This is a good quality grapefruit knife that is well sharp & well made. Does a nice job on cutting the different sections apart. One side has a curved shape blade to cut around the fruit. The double blade is used to cut out the triangle sections. However, you will see when you go to wash & clean this knife, the 2 blades together are hard to clean between them. So this is what I did to fix this cleaning issue. I cut one of the 2 blades off with a rotary Dremel tool. Then filed down around the edges to make it smooth. It really made a difference in cleaning this knife so I bought another one & did the same thing. In case you are wondering why I didn't buy another name brand grapefruit knife is this. Almost every one I looked at on-line has this patent 2 blade design. But now my knife cleaning got a lot easier. Highly recommend the knife.Shun DM0716 Classic 4-Inch Paring Knife
I bought this knife to complement the rest of my selection that I have been purchasing one knife at a time. I had tried Wustoff, Henckels, and Global before settling with Shun knives. I am a culinary student at the art institute and was turned on to Shun knives by my chef instructor who gave me a lead on certified Shun Dealer. I fell in love with these knives the first time I tried them. I knew I wanted the 2-1/2 inch bird's beak knife, which is why I decided on the 4" paring knife instead of the 3-1/2". If you are not pursuing the bird's beak knife then the 3-1/2 inch paring knife is great. Also, if you own any Shun knives, make sure you get the Shun Honing Steel with the built in angle. Shun knives retain their sharpness longer than other knifes in this category because they are fabricated with a smaller angle to make the blade than their competition. Most knives form a 45 degree angle to make the blade with two sides at 22.5 degrees each. However, Shun forms their blades with 16 degree angles on both sides to form a 32 degree blade. You should use the steel at least once a week and Shun offers "lifetime" warranty with free "factory-edge" sharpening any time you want. Depending on use, you should send the knives into Shun once a year for sharpening.I own three knives: a Shun 8" bread knife, a German 9" chef knife, and this one. This is only one of the three I seem to use day in and day out. It's incredibly sharp, incredibly comfortable to hold, and is the perfect utility piece. I see no need to own a knife block full of specialty blades you'll never use. If you're just starting your set, start with this one. Highly recommended.Buy Shun DM0716 Classic 4-Inch Paring Knife Now
I recently purchased this Shun 4'' paring knife along with Mac 8'' chef's knife and a Global 5-1/4'' santoku, and this knife is every bit as sharp as the more expensive Mac and Global brands--scary sharp, in fact. Plus, the Damascus style steel is simply a work of art. I've used this knife for everything from apples to mushrooms to green onions, and it moved through all of them effortlessly and without damaging the food. I sharpened it recently--not that it needed it really but just because I wanted it as good as when it came--and it regains its original edge in a just a few swipes across a ceramic steel. Finally, the handle I think is the most comfortable of all the knives I purchased, long enough to fit easily in your hand but not so big that it reduces functionality. While Shun knives are certainly becoming very popular in the U.S., it's popularity well deserved, and this knife has found a busy role in my kitchen and was worth the extra cost over its inferior competitors. I'm glad I made the investment--there's simply no comparison between this knife and a Forschner paring knife, which I used previously.Read Best Reviews of Shun DM0716 Classic 4-Inch Paring Knife Here
The first one I got had a blade that was dented in one spot and bent in another. That would have been enough to send it back, but it was also overground in one place and underground in another. I can deal with undergrind, but overgrind basically ruins a knife (it creates a "hole" that is a huge pain to sharpen). It didn't help that the endcap was poorly finished. Naturally, I had Amazon replace it (very good service, by the way). The second sample did not have the dent or bend in the blade. However, it had overgrind and undergrind in the same places as the previous knife, though not so bad that it was ruined. Finish on the endcap was worse than the first sample, but I can live with that so I kept it.
If you get one without these issues (or if you don't care about them), then I would give it 4 stars. Shun grinds their knives very thin behind the edge and usually has very good fit and finish. The blade is not too thick, and I really like the length. It is one of the better paring knives in this price range (~60). One thing I don't care for is that Shun's VG10 does seem to be more brittle than others (I have about a dozen knives in this steel from Spyderco, Henckels, and Tojiro). The other reason I docked points is that the Forschner/Victorinox paring knife is thinner, gets just as sharp, costs ten times less, and seems to have better quality control. Oddly enough, the Forschner also comes in better packaging (not that it should matter).

I only user a 9" chef's knife, a bread knife, a long pairing knife (occasionally), and now this amazing 4" Shun utility knife. It feels great in my hand, is perfectly balanced, and its blade is so sharp it makes me think of a surgical blade. It's the knife that I reach for most often, and it's a pleasure every time. I've had it for about 6 months so far and don't feel the need to professionally sharpen it yet.
