J.K. Adams 20-Inch-by-14-Inch Maple Wood Traditional Carving Board with Juice GrooveI bought this tray to use for Thanksgiving, but also wanted something I could use more than once a year. This tray fit the bill for me. My Thanksgiving turkeys are around 20 lbs. so there's a little overhang, but as it said it works. It caught all the drippings just fine, because it's made to actually work! It has a generously deep well not like some of those other boards out there that the well fills up instantly because they are too shallow. The wood is really nice, I sealed it with mineral oil as soon as I received it, and it's held up fine for over a year now and I picture myself passing it down to my children as one of those rock solid, last forever type of pieces.

By the way, I did a lot of research before purchasing. I looked into the one with the metal spokes built in to hold the meat in place, but it was recommended to me to steer away from that style as its much harder to keep sanitary. I'm extremely happy with this choice!

This item was great! No puny little well. This one definitely holds enough juices from a large medium prime rib roast. Exactly what I was looking for.

This board rules. I have had it a few weeks now, and I am very pleased. It has VERY deep channels to keep juicy foods off your counter, and if you don't need the channels, just flip it over and use the other side there are no stupid non slip feet or mounting pieces that keep you from using both ends of the board. I was surprised by the heft and size of the board when it arrived and am very pleased as it seems like it is solidly made. It is not so heavy/large that I cannot move it easily, but it can do basically any job in the kitchen for me. Its even big enough for a turkey... Hello holiday celebrations! I would totally buy this again and even though its a little expensive (a total birthday splurge for me), I think it is worth it.

A very sturdy board. I've used for carving steak and a turkey. The deep wells held all of the

juices. No spilling onto the counter. If you want it to look nice for a long time, my wife and I

coated our board with half a dozen coats "mineral oil" before using it.

This board totally met all expectations, it is Huge! and holds a LOT of meat juice which is what I was looking for. The only negative thing I have is that it didn't seem to be pre sealed/seasoned with oil or whatever because the first time I used it, it has stained. So season it before you use it.

I purchased these in August 2012 to give to my 82 year old mom for her birthday. This set is by far one of the cheapest made sets Gibson has and was an embarrassment to give them to my mom. They are made in China and are VERY flimsy. Not hard for me to believe the ONCE POPULAR "Gibson" has sold out to China for making their silverware just so they can increase their profit margin. I was very impressed at first sight out of the box. I feel this is worth the money. I am a frugal, patient, and indecisive shopper. Glad I bought this!

the bag is very sturdy and holds a ton of kit. the downside being that it wont take bulky items, even in the netted pockets. it is also prone to looking grubby very quickly. I think a silicone based spray like the one used on sneakers might be a good idea if you want to keep it looking tip top.

i wish the pockets where bigger the stitching is so tight and close together that i have to fight to get my knife in and then cut myself taking one out when the knife blade guard slipped will try it out for a week

BergHOFF 7-Piece Forged Knife Block Set

BergHOFF 7-Piece Forged Knife Block SetI just got these knives yesterday, so these are mainly my initial impressions. The packaging is not that great. I don't know if most knife sets come like this, but I was a little surprised. Everything was wrapped in cheap plastic and had some manufacturing residue on it. The block had bits of glue in random spots that had to be cleaned off. I cleaned the block and washed all the knives and everything looks good. There are a few hairline scratches on one or two knives, nothing major. On each knife, it says X30Cr14 which I believe has something to do with Chromium. It also says "D10", "Rostfrei", "BergHOFF", and gives the length. I can't tell where these knives are made. I looked all over the packaging to no avail. BergHOFF is a Belgian company so take that for what it's worth. I even looked on their website and there is no real info I could find.

The knives are solid and heavy feeling. With the counter balance they are a pleasure to hold. You can hold the knife with one finger. Just put the finger on the bottom near the middle of the handle (right side up) and it will balance nicely. They come nice and sharp, but make sure you have a way to sharpen them since there is no steel. I'm not an expert on knives so I can't tell the difference, but these are forged, not stamped. Berghoff recommends that these be hand washed. I'll update this review with cutting performance and durability later.

Overall, these are some very nice knives, and I recommend them.

As soon as I held the first knife I was so very impressed with the ergonomic and balanced handle. I just received them today and will use for the first time tonight ... will follow up on how they perform. From the feel and visual inspection, I anticipate an very good experience. Can't wait!

I consider myself a pretty accomplished cook and have used good quality level J.A. Henkels for years and also have a set of Miricale Knives(yuck!) that will go to charity. The Henkels have served their purpose, but they don't keep the edge and I can't stand to use serrated knives for every day prepping ~ I feel like I'm ripping or tearing whatever I'm cutting, instead of slicing through. And, the Henkels handles are not ergonomic ~ the BergHOFF fits like a glove.

Just as advertised, I love these knives.. i bought my father a 250 dollar set of "Wusty's" and they are nice, but i like these MUCH better. So many people say if it "aint a wustoff than it aint a knife". Thats ridiculous to think that no one else in the world can make a great knife? these are quality, full tang, triple riveted, and excellently crafted knives! you will NOT be disappointed. The balance IS fantastic, even the aesthetics of theses knives is awesome (less important I know, but defiantly worth mentioning)Also the bamboo knife block with stainless bracket is VERY nice in craftsmanship too.. somthing that was not the case with the expensive wustoff set i bout my dad? the knife block that comes with this set DOES NOT feel like a "freebie" or throw in item. I took a gamble to buy a knife online and im try to share my success. I really like these knives.

It comes with 6 pieces plus the block and it looks great on counter.

Some of the knifes are a bit heavy so when handling some of the bigger knifes it may resemble a workout.

Also the scissors are a great addition however the clasp is not guaranteed to stay locked and I would much rather prefer a sharpening tool.

I've been seriously considering purchasing a Saber knife set and noticed this offer. My only comment is this is not the official Saber F-13 Home Chef set.

Dexter-Russell Cook's Knife 10'I learned about this knife from an article in the NYT by Mark Bittman. It was poorly packaged and arrived with a bent tip. I emailed Amazon, they refunded my money and told me to keep it. I took it down to my shop and re-grounded the point. I own many knives and this is now my favorite. It sharpens easily with a conventional ceramic sharpener. The blade is thin and slices easily through tomatoes to cruciferous veggies. The handle is non-porous and cleans up easily. This blows the barn doors off my fancy and costly knives which require more pampering than my teenage daughter.

I don't mess around when I cook and have no patience for any knife that is less than excellent!

A knife Must be:

Quick & Easy to Sharpen. Many expensive knives are miserable to try to sharpen.

Have just a bit of flex to the blade, this helps when crushing garlic, cutting around bones etc.

Dishwasher Safe. I like the white plastic handle very ergonomic and easy to see that it's clean.

A knife must have a good blade design. This 10" size with a bit of a curve to the edge is perfect!

Dexter Russell 10" Cooks Knife Has Everything I require in a knife.

It's also a fantastic value. I have used many knives that cost ten-times as much that weren't half as good. This knife is so good that I take it when I travel.

I own several knives from this line including another 10" cook's knife that I bought years ago from a kitchen supply store. I love those. Even as I've added much more expensive knives to my collection, my old 10" knife with the white plastic handle is the first one I always reach for.

I recently ordered this one as a gift. When it showed up, the thickness of the spine was significantly thinner than the one I bought years ago. I assume the company has changed their design over the years. I wound up keeping it for myself and getting a different knife for the gift.

Now both 10" knives are in the knife block. Even though the handles are identical, I can immediately tell whether I have the old or new one just by how it feels in my hand. I would still reccommend the knife, but be prepared. If you're an old fan of Dexter-Russell, this is a cheaper version of what you bought 10 years ago.

I've owned one of these knives for 8+ years and love it so much that I recently purchased another as a gift for my college-age nephew. The serrations on this knife are concave, and as a result, the blade immediately "bites" into whatever you are cutting. (Convex-edged knives have a tendency to slip until they've penetrated the crust or outer surface of the food.) After more than eight years of frequent use, the blade is still in excellent condition. It is every bit as good as a knife costing three or four times the price.

One more note: I have Victorinox knives with both rosewood and Fibrox handles. Although the rosewood handles feel great in the hand and look beautiful, the Fibrox handles do give you a better grip. That's not as critical an issue with a knife used mainly to slice bread, but if you're looking to buy a chef's knife for cutting hard foods like winter squash, I would go with the Fibrox.

I bought this knife based on reviews. I would have gone with the 10 inch but it was not available through Amazon and I think having to pay the additional S&H ridiculous. That and reviewers had spoken of it being such a big knife! The 8 inch size is great and it cuts bread very well, but I did expect it to be a bit sharper. It is sharp enough, however, for me to wish it was sold with a blade guard!

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Finishing Stone Pro Sharpening Stone

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Finishing Stone Pro Sharpening StoneMuch cheaper than other Japanese stones, man-made or natural, for what you get. You'll be easily paying this much for a Japanese man-made stone for a single grit stone above 5000. You get 3000 and 8000 grit, which are critical for mirror shine finish. Very easy to work with and if you use it along with the 250/1000 sharpening stone, they will get you knives like a sword. I'm pretty certain that both 250/1000 and 3000/8000 are man-made since you don't have to soak the stone....just a splash of water would do it.

They are made in Japan and despite what others said, in my opinion, Nagura stone is a must. I think a lot of other people use Nagura stone for grits lower than 5000 (and you're supposed to use them for 5000&UP) hence the improper usage. For those not familiar, Nagura stone is for creating a slur, evening out the fine grit stones, and removing metal residue trapped on the stone. After a few strokes, the stones will have gray color deposits (from the knife blade). You can use Nagura stone apply in circular motion will remove the residue and get your stone to sharpen again rather than your knife sliding across it (you will hear and feel this).

Most of the sharpening is done on 250 grit (reshape the nicks and the bade/cutting bevel). The 3000/8000 get used for only about a few minutes per side (vs some time close to an hour on 250 grit with neglected knife).....so this item will last a LONG time.

I've been using this to keep my Henckels Pro S, Miyabi, and Shun knives sharp. From the softer German steel, to the harder Japanese steel, it works great. These are rebranded Naniwa Super Stones and the dual surface makes it a great value for people that don't need to sharpen that often since it saves you from buying separate stones and each side will still last a very long time.

I purchased this during one of Amazon's lightning deals for a Christmas gift, and we've been pleasantly surprised with how well it actually works. A definite word of caution: the knife is really sharp! Just a slight accidental touch of the sharp blade caused a razor thin "paper-cut" that was just deep enough to bleed. However, when we use it on freshly baked bread with a crispy crust on the outside and soft & light on the inside -it sliced it up wonderfully!

Our old knives would compress freshly baked bread down to less than 1/4th of the original height before finally cutting through. Thankfully, this knife allowed the bread to keep its original size and cut through the crispy crust without squishing all of the soft delicate bread inside. On the loaves that were "extra crispy" on the outside, I just needed to be patient and let the serrated blade do its job cutting back & forth a little extra until it made it through the crust.

I hope that it lasts as well as other reviewers have claimed, but so far it's been working great!

Victorinox Chefs 7.5-inch Narrow Stiff Blade Rosewood HandleI was looking for another good quality chef's knife to go along with my 10" Forshner chef's knife, which I've also been totally pleased with. A knife I expected to use more than the big one, especially for smaller jobs. This knife was perfect for my needs. It's light, well balanced, stiff and just feels great in your hand. The blade comes razor sharp, and with a good steel stays that way for quite a while. Forschner knives hold a good edge, so I've also made a point of getting blade guards from J.B. Prince Company for all my quality knives and recommend them too. No sense ruining a good edge by just throwing a knife into that drawer unprotected. I've always gone with the rose wood handles they're just too nice to pass up. But I'm sure the fibrox handles are perfectly suitable as well.

Perfect size, weight, and blade thickness for most jobs requiring a chef knife. Bigger and heavier is not always better.

To me, this 7.5 very sharp chef knife is absolutely fantastic.

There's a word not to be missed in the description : stiff.

It is stiffer than the 8 inchs. It means that, when chopping hard veggies like carrots or turnip, this blade will follow the path without angle to paper thin slices. It is stiff. And I got this one because of this.

Not much reviews here for the 7.5 inchs. The thinner heel of the blade, probably. People buy the 8 inchs which is excellent. But to me, this blade is faster and with the pinch grip, it's a natural tool to mince and shop. Garlic ? Few horizontals/verticals, clac, clac, clac and its done. Flat, bang and its crushed. Took 5 sec. A real pleasure to use and, if you're not used to good knives, you will chop too much veggies just for the fun of it for a few weeks.

If the shape feel good in your hand, all you need is this 7.5", a slightly smaller utility, a paring, a filet and a bread. And scissors.

Those are the only knives I use at home even if I have other$. And im a serious cooker.

With these, I can cook everything I can think of with ease. But you will have to try it in stores to make sure the slimmer blade is good for you. Im glad I found my style. Shorter, lighter, thinner, faster blades. Bingo. Im a lefty. Santoku could also be good for me but dimples in blades are almost always made for the right handed (dimples on the left side of the knife only).

When I bought those, I spent a lot of time online and offline trying for different knife brands and I was ready to pay 100 buck per knife as long as I was sure I bought the best knives FOR ME that I will like to use. I wont buy forged knives anymore. Too heavy. Expensives stamped knives (shun, global, ...) are too fragile for me. I mess my kitchen with bowls and cookwares and klings! and klangs! The forschners are perfect middle of the road between performance and toughness.

Hope this helped. Just ask yourself what kind of knives you really need. Will you use your knives daily for real or will you just show em off to friends and call pizzas. Expensive knives means proper cares. I prefer to care about my guests rather than my knives. And they dont give a damn about my knives. They like my cooking.

I bought one "used, like new" place setting from Amazon Warehouse Deals to see if I really liked the design before shelling out my hard earned cash for a complete service. The set came in the original packaging with plastic sleeves still on the individual pieces, so I don't think it was ever actually used. I liked the design, but unfortunately the salad fork was defective. The little dots were missing for about an inch around one side. This was obviously a manufacturing defect, not caused by wear. Hopefully, this is a one time only problem, and not indicative of Wedgwood quality these days. I think I will keep looking though for something not made in China. I should mention that Amazon returns process was super fast and easy.

The handle and blade are forged from one piece of metal so you'll never again have the nuisance of handle rivets breaking and coming off. Each blade is almost a full inch in depth, not thin. I'm going to keep my eye on this brand because I'm liking what I see.

This is a great ceramic peeler! We make pear sauce and it dealt like a champ with every big, lumpy pear we picked. If it does eventually break, we'll order another. In fact, may order another just to have on hand.

Does not look like much when you open it up, but it works really nice. Dont get your fingers to close to it!
