International Silver Surf 44-Piece Set
I returned it the same day I got it. They were sooo thin and cheap looking. I bet they would bend If you tried to eat with them.
I needed another set for a big Thanksgiving feast and was pleased to be able to buy another set almost a year after the initial purchase. I cannot tell which set is old and which one is new. This is a testament to the quality of this product.

Overall it seems to be well made, but it is too thin to truly be protective in the kitchen, this makes it great and lightweight for a hot environment and maybe good for a catering chef or bartender, etc, but working in the kitchen I don't think it is heavy enough to protect me from hot oil, etc in the kitchen. I'm not a chef. I'm just a home cook that got tired of ruining prefectly good shirts with oily stains and splashes. I used to wear a bib front apron but I still would get little splash stains where my apron didn't cover.This jacket gives me complete coverage. I'm a plus-sized woman so I bought the 3X to make sure it would be big enough to button (I usually wear 3X shirts and this fits a little loose). I also bought the 3/4 sleeves (which fit me right at my wrists) because I'm only 5ft 3in tall and regular length sleeves would have been way too long.
I liked this so much that the day after it arrived, I bought another one (this time in merlot). Highly recommended.
UPDATE:Yesterday my husband remarked how big this jacket was on me. Well, I have been on a diet but I didn't think I'd lost that much weight so I took a closer look in the mirror. After further inspection, I'm sure I could have easily fit into the 2X (and maybe even the 1X). I still love the jacket and I don't think it looks that big on me but if fit matters to you and you usually wear a 3X in women's tops then you might want to order the 2X instead. And if Amazon offers free returns, then you can't go wrong either way.

Faster than a food processor I love a good chef's knife and this one is perfect. The blade is solingen steel. the edge holds up and is easily and quickly sharpened with a few strokes of the steel. The blade is wide enough that when chopping i can let the side of the blade rest against the knuckle of my left hand and very precisely and safely guide each stroke. the blad has enough weight that given a little momentum it will cut cleanly through 4 or 5 carrots or stalks of celery. the bolster does not extend down the blade to the edge so that i can sharpen the entire length of the blade. it's a workhorse tool in my kitchen.

Does not do nearly the job I thought it would. Knives get relativity sharp but do not hold edge. Chef's Choice was hard to deal with and would not pay return shipping. I thought they should since this product did not live up to expectations. Positive it runs very smooth and opens beautifully when it works, for maybe 9-12 months, just long enough to get past the warranty. Does open large cans easily, again, when it works. Negatives -must be more plastic gears, it works great but will not shut off even after can is removed. You have to unplug and wait. Very annoying when making a large pot of chili, etc., when there are 8-10 cans to be opened. Also, will not open, it NEVER did, small cans of tomato paste, I have to get out the crank opener. The small can just will not puncture and turn. Would NOT purchase again, would not recommend.

I absolutely hate this beast in my kitchen! So why have I put up with it for over two years? I need to have my head examined! I'm getting better though, as I'm on Amazon tonight browsing for a new can opener, and you can be sure it won't be another Black and Decker. I think they should stick to making tools for the handyman and forget appliances. We had a B &D toaster oven several years back that performed almost as miserably as this can opener.On the positive side it does have a nice sleek design and looks good on the kitchen counter. The knife sharpener is a good feature and does work. The "one touch" idea would be great if only the can would stay in the cutter. Ditto for the "tall can" idea. Great, but the cans keep falling out. Very few cans of any size have ever stayed in and gone completely around. In order to even start, one must peel the label from the can first or it gets chewed up and causes a wad of paper at the cutter which in turn also causes the can to slip out. Other times this "beast" is a tease and only partially opens a can. You wind up with 3 or 4 cuts in the lid and the can opener cannot be persuaded to go around again and cut through completely.
I agree with the reviewer who wanted a minus star to rate this with, except I would like about minus 5! If you see this appliance in a store, run the other way. Do NOT waste your hard earned dollars on a purchase.

The Black and Decker EC475B makes a really sleek door stop. Even on days when the house is open, and a breeze wafts through, it has never failed to hold the door in place. I'd suggest removing the cutting head to improve the symmetry--it is of no particular use anyway and can be discarded.For those wanting to open cans, I now use an EKCO Magic Glide C-865, one from my parents' estate, found in the "junk drawer" in their kitchen. It is the long handled version of what many campers use and has never failed, unlike "electric can openers" that seldom work, foisted off on unsuspecting buyers in mega-stores. Yes, the Ekco Magic Glide C-865 is an antique, available on EBay for around $16 + shipping. But since it is just a basic tool you might want to pick up a brand new Ekco hand-held can opener at the gadget aisle of your grocery store for under $3, or a fancy model of it for under $10. Or, if electric "pre-doorstop" models still call to you, maybe keep searching Amazon reviews for one less of a turkey.

We really liked how this product looked in the picture and were impressed by the positive reviews on amazon. It looked quite good out of the box too, and we immediately thought it would be perfect for everyday wear. Now, "everyday wear" for me really means withstanding the dishwasher, and some of the pieces have done poorly in the dishwasher, showing signs of rust on several of the knives. The instructions warn you about using dishwasher soap with lemon in it (which we don't use) so it's a mystery about why they're rusting so fast. I think for the money, they really should be dishwasher safe. So, we're torn, because they look good and the weight is great for daily use, but having some of the pieces corrode after just a couple of weeks of use is upsetting. We're probably going to return them.

We received this set as a wedding shower gift and loved it. Unfortunately after using it for only a month or so it was so badly rusted that I was embarassed to let anyone use them! Took it back to the store to exchange it because we love the look and feel of the set so much and after about a week, it's already rusting again. We are really dissapointed and will have to switch to a different brand. Wood and bamboo oils are much less exotic than one might think. I actually use mineral oil laxative on my wood kitchen items ($2 for 16 oz. at many drug stores) which is the same thing. Clearly the laxative bottle is less than aesthetically pleasing and is embarassing to leave around the kitchen. My wife keeps hiding the bottle in fact. But No it won't have a laxative effect if you use it on your cutting boards or knife handles.
I bought a new bamboo cutting board since that time and use this product on it a couple times per week to keep it looking nice and new. Before storing the old board that is only used occasionally now, I covered it with this oil and let it sink in. The product doesn't have any odor and a little goes pretty far. The fact that it's food safe is very important to me.

If you are cooking with wood or bamboo utensils, or using bamboo cutting boards, the manufacturer will recommend you treat them prior to using them with a wood oil such as this one (which is really mineral oil if you want to save money and buy a generic brand).I bought Joyce Chen's Bamboo Wood Oil to use on a beautiful bamboo cutting board, the MIU Bamboo Mini Butcher Board and on my Le Creuset kitchen utensils with bamboo handles.
I applied the bamboo oil using paper towels. It only takes a very small amount. Bamboo is a hard, nonporous wood and very little oil soaked into the cutting board. I gave it a quick wash with soapy water under the kitchen sink and immediately dried it to get rid of excess oil.
I recommend Joyce Chen's Bamboo Wood Oil as it is a high-quality mineral oil at a reasonable price. It will protect my cutting boards from moisture and lengthen their life spans. Treating with wood oil is also recommended in the board's care instructions. Use this product when your wooden utensils are brand new, before you have used them the first time.
Note: Don't use olive oil or other cooking oils on your wooden utensils as they will cause them to go rancid and will ruin them. Use mineral oil or a wood oil brand such as this one.

Starfrit Salad Spinner
Our old spinner is the circular crank on the top of the salad spinner lid. It still works well, but is a style that you don't seem to find anymore. We grow a lot of greens in the summer and really go through the salad. So we usually have a couple of spinners going at any one time. Unfortunately, we've had to make do the last few years with one of those Kitchen Aid models with the pump you push down hard to get spinning. From the get-go I knew that was a crummy design as the pressure you were applying was going directly to the bottom of the salad basket. Plus the pump tube running through the entirety of the salad basket used up way too much room in the basket, making for significantly reduced volume of salad. A **really** dumb design. And of course it ultimately failed just as described above--the application of downward pressure on the pump mechanism ultimately broke the bottom of the salad basket--DUH!! Thus rendering the Kitchen Aid into trash. So we shopped around and saw a number of other models with the dreaded pump mechanism--and costly, too. Then we found this unit on Amazon and ordered one. This is an excellent item. Holds a good quantity of salad, spins easily with a more natural cranking motion than the top-crank models (or those dumb cord-pull versions), and really gets the water out of the greens. Very economically priced as well. We use this thing a TON, and it is really holding up to our punishing use. If we need another spinner at some point, this will be the one. Stoked to have found this thing.

This thing is awesome! I have been looking for a replacement for my old clunky OXO spinner which has the center "push down" button. I discovered this Starfrit spinner on Amazon, never seen it or heard of it before. I couldn't ignore all the 5 star reviews. Strange name and it looks so different. But it is actually a genius design. I was thinking of getting the Zyliss brand (has good reviews but not 5 star) with the string and pull handle but glad I didn't. The Starfrit spinner is amazingly easy to use. It doesn't matter what height you use it at; set it on the table, chair, counter, etc. The crank is ergonomically positioned so that it is easy to reach and use from any angle. I don't have to practically stand on it like my OXO which feels more like a piece of exercise equipment by comparison. The Starfrit's super smooth gearing works perfect and gets the basket spinning up to 10,000rpm in two crank revolutions. Ok I'm exaggerating, but that's what it certainly feels like! I should also mention that the crank uses a "freewheel" design like a bicycle. In other words, after you crank the basket up to speed it spins freely and independently of the stopped crank handle, smart and efficient! The brake is also powerful and works awesome to stop the basket from spinning. Seriously, if you can't get something dry after spinning it in here then something else is wrong, and it is not Starfrit's fault! Some reviewers commented on the large size of this unit so I was expecting some unusually big spinner. This spinner is the exact same size as the large OXO spinners which are typical in the market. As a matter of fact the basket from my OXO will swap into the Starfrit and it fits and works perfect! The basket dimensions are: 9.5" diameter and 5" tall, a typical spinner size. So this should resolve any size questions. This product is manufactured in China but cleverly designed in Canada. They should import more of these to the USA. Because then more people will realize how far superior it is and how it trounces all other designs.I use my Starfrit every week to dry my wheatgrass after washing. Compared to my OXO, my spin drying time has been reduced by half or more. Besides having a poor design and a low mechanical advantage, the OXO is very load sensitive. The more vegetation I put in the more difficult it is to get it spinning and up to a good speed. I can now put more than twice the amount of wheatgrass into the Starfrit with no problem and it has the "horsepower" to dry it all with amazing ease. I am totally impressed with this product.

This is a great size a bit larger than most which I like. I grow my own lettuce and I didn't want anything electric. This one spins really well and has a break if you need, also sticks to the counter which is a nice feature.
