Oneida Voss 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8

Oneida Voss 45-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8I really love the weight of this flatware set. I already had a set of these; however, my son had thrown away about 4 of the spoons, so I wanted to get another set, so if I have company there would be enough spoons to go around. It is a very nice look that can go casual or more formal. I highly recommend.

Joseph Joseph Elevate Carousel Set

Joseph Joseph Elevate Carousel Set, Multi-colorI almost didn't buy this set because of the negative reviews on the stand. I am glad I bought it becaus the stand is excellent. It has large hooks on the top and I have had no problems with the utensils falling off. The only way I can see that people are having the utensils fall off the stand is if they leave them facing inward as that is the way they are shipped to make the shipping package smaller. The utensils themselves are excellent and look great.

(I didn't buy from Amazon, but have owned this set for about 18 months now.)

The tools themselves are outstanding comfortable to hold, and (with the exception of the soup ladle) keep the business end off the countertop. The soup ladle has too much weight that the weighted handle can't keep the bowl off the counter.

If it weren't for the carousel, I'd award 5 stars. The carousel, however, is a world unto itself, and severely limits the usefulness and efficacy of this system (particularly if you buy for space-saving reasons). The problem is, the hooks aren't angled enough, so the moment you even glance at the carousel, one of the implements will fall off. And if you should accidentally knock one off, then at least two others will go as you try to remedy the situation. Don't even _think_ of actually spinning the thing...

Lesson learned as a result of ownership: for the slotted spoon, solid spoon and spaghetti straininer, turn them so they face inwards instead of outwards. That vastly improves the chances of them staying on the carousel when it's turned. Unfortunately, if you do this for the fish slice and pancake turner, they drag on the base of the carousel and cause a completely different set of problems.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these utensils. Joseph Joseph is amazing. I have had no such problem with the utensils falling off and I use it EVERY DAY. Yes, they would fall off if you spun it around REALLY fast, but if you treat it like you spent $50 on it, you don't have to worry. These are great quality and bring such a great life to my kitchen! You won't be disappointed.. Just don't pretend like it's a merry-go-round.

The set includes a good selection of utensils with comfortable grips. The kickstand is a great addition no spoon rest needed. My only gripe is that they fall off of the stand too easily.

before we got this set, our nylon utensils (from a reputable brand) rested in a cylinder, handle side down, which posed a little annoyance 'cuz they were very wide and grippy, causing some resistance when placing a utensil in the cylinder or taking one out. we like the modern look of this set with the multicolored handles and how the utensils each have their own hook on the storage carousel. listed below are my pros and cons:

pros:

1) compact storage carousel haven't had an issue with utensils flying off the hook when turning it rapidly or with a utensil dragging along the countertop (about 1 cm clearance). utensils meant to store with head facing out as pictured.

2) 6 commonly used utensils with heat resistant nylon heads

3) "elevate" feature of each utensil, which allows the head to rest above the countertop, essentially negating a spoon rest

4) soft, comfortable handles, multicolored for a bit of flare

5) sturdy heads, which allows the use of some elbow grease while cooking "heavy" dishes

cons:

1) handles aren't heat resistant, so they'll melt if resting against the edge of the pot/pan while cooking i know they have the "elevate" feature but sometimes i don't want to take the utensil out while cooking, especially if it's only for a short period of time. the handles should still be able to withstand some high heat; i suspect they're made of rubber, not silicone

2) the nylon heads aren't stain resistant my old utensils (which these replaced) haven't stained after 8 years of use, while these stained after 1 use!

3) questionable heat resistance of nylon heads after first use, i noticed the heads' edges melted as i was able to peel off a small clump of material after i washed it (at first i thought it was baked-on food, but it was actually the nylon!)

the "elevate" feature definitely does what's it's advertised to do, which is to prevent the head from touching a dirty countertop, but it won't prevent any food or sauce from dripping onto the countertop, so don't think it will alleviate mess altogether. i think they could've been made with more durable materials, but overall, it's a very good set of utensils. sure they'll be replaced after they've lost their utility, because they will degrade over time. stored compactly and securely on the carousel, they remain close at hand near the stove.

Norpro 5117 Deluxe Cherry and Olive Corer

Norpro 5117 Deluxe Cherry and Olive CorerHad a long discussion with our local kitchen store owner and looked at her stock. It looked like this cherry stoner would be the most efficient. It has a curved plate that holds the cherry in place as the pit remover is extracted from the fruit. It works just as well as I thought it would.

It extracts most pits cleanly without losing any of the fruit and the cherry drops out of the tool with a flick. Once I got a rhythm going, and realized that the the fastest extraction happens with the cherry inserted sideways, I was processing a cherry about every couple of seconds. It's not quite as fast as the old hopper feeder/lever action model I grew up with but almost. It also doesn't mangle the cherries like that did. They come out looking nice. It's a good thing that cherries ripen in mid summer so I could pit them over the glass patio table. Juicy cherries can be messy. Inside a sink works too but why waste a summer day?

If there's any negative it would be that this is made of plastic. It is certainly more fragile than a metal model. Though using it for a couple of hours a year I don't see that durability should be a problem. On the other hand, that plastic makes it very inexpensive.

I works well for Calamari olives too. The tool holds the larger fruit size just fine.

I like this pitter. It works easily, and ejects the pit completely, even from the largest cherries. Reviews of other pitters say that they don't always push the pit completely out, but that is not a problem with this one.

The scissors action makes it easy to use. It's a good idea to work over a bowl because the pit can come shooting out with some force, so you can eject a pit across a room if you're not careful. Then again, you might find that fun to do!

There is a part that prevents the cherry from sticking to the "piston" that pushes out the pit, so you don't have to pull the cherry out. It just falls out. Hard to find any fault with this tool.

Buy Norpro 5117 Deluxe Cherry and Olive Corer Now

I bought 2 of these when I saw our cherry tree would bear fruit this year. My wife and I did 5 cups of cherries in a few minutes. The fruit remained whole and attractive. The stone just flies out! This is a good pitter period. And so inexpensive I recommend buying extras to use as gifts. Wear an old shirt or apron as there may be some spray. We did ours outside at our picnic table on newspapers so we did not have much clean up. If you can use a paper punch then you are qualified to operate this gem. A+

I have a favourite recipe that calls for 4 cups of olives and the only way to buy these particular olives is with the pit still in, so I really need a good pitter... and this is NOT it.

This cherry/olive pitter is (obviously) plastic, but unfortunately it's a plastic that's not as strong as my olives. Even standard green olives are too much for this weak plastic gadget. I have felt like I was going to break the plastic handle when squeezing to get the pit out (really tough on your hands, too); the plastic didn't break, but it did bend (INSTEAD of pushing the pit out).

Save your money for a strong metal cherry/olive pitter if you plan on using this more than once.

On the really soft olives it works great, though... but so do my fingers.

Want Norpro 5117 Deluxe Cherry and Olive Corer Discount?

I just received this item a few days ago. I tried it out by making candied cherries, which required pitting about a pound of cherries. It worked fine, though if you do not hit the stone right on center, it might not eject the stone. On balance, not a big problem. I just kept a small spoon handy for this very occasional problem, which was still MUCH easier to deal with than cutting the pit out of a pile of cherries by other means.

Take note that those who did not like this device were generally talking about using it for olives, while those who did were talking about pitting cherries. If you are pitting mass quantities of cherries, you might not be crazy about it, because you are dealing with one cherry at a time. Given my modest needs (probably typical of the home cook), this device works just fine.

Ginkgo Lafayette Gift-Boxed Stainless Steel Steak Knifes, Set of 4i'm not quite sure how i feel about this purchase... they match my silverware BUT they are not what i expected a "steak knife" to be. the "serrated" edge, strangely, is only serrated on one side of the knife. i tried them out on a steak and they worked ok, but i don't know if i would purchase them again given the opportunity.

I've been looking for the matching steak knives / GINKGO LAFAYETTE pattern -was nice to find and have shipped same day. Excellent quality, very substantial. Thank you.

New Great Kitchen Santoku Knife Cooking Tool Gadget with Cover by Farberware 5" Blade

New Great Kitchen Santoku Knife Cooking Tool Gadget with Cover by Farberware 5' BladeI found a knife like this at Walmart and could never find another. I looked here and there it was. I love this knife. I have small hands so larger butcher knives are difficult for me to use and get a good small chop. This one is great. I use it for everthing.

Yoshihiro Cutlery Hammered Damascus Petty Chef Knife, 5-Inch

Yoshihiro Cutlery Hammered Damascus Petty Chef Knife, 5-InchSpending almost a month doing research on Amazon's wide selection of kitchen cutlery, I'm so glad I ignored the previous 3 star review on this knife and bought it on a hunch. I think this is AWESOME value for such a great knife. Out of the box, it showed no mercy prepping onions, garlic cloves, mushrooms, carrots and celery with buttery precision. Also, I really love the taper design of these Asian petty knives as it allows me to speed up at the tip for smaller veggies. I think this knife actually looks better in person than the picture as the blade's almost chrome-like finish mingled with the damascus swirls is a testament to the fine finishing craftsmanship of the blade. If you need a small prep knife, THIS IS IT!

Wanted to buy a real Japanese kitchen knife. Really glad that I bought this one from Yoshihiro Cutlery. The craftsman ship and beauity is stunning. The wood handle on the full tang that extends from the hammered damascus blade, has so much depth that no photo can show the full detail. As for cutting, the blade is the smoothest and sharpest that I've ever used. Service was the best, shipped, solidly packed-so arrived in perfect condition. My score is a 5+ as every aspect of this transaction was flawless.

Out of the box, this is the sharpest knife I have ever owned. Feels great in the hand. Light. Works wonders. Made me order another from the same seller who included a $10 off coupon with this knife. Better than any of my 4 Shun knives.

I just received this product today. The seller was also very quick with their service.

I haven't been able to play with it long, but here are my first impressions:

1. It's well built. No noticeable edges or gaps. The handle feels good. The blade looked good. It looks like like the picture. So, it's obviously a western style handle.

2. The blade is crazy sharp. I only cut carrots so far, but it was pretty effortless. It came with a great edge. I didn't need to fix it.

3. Price is great. I mean, Shun gets all the love, but seriously look at the prices between the two brands for Hammered Damascus VG-10 steel. I actually work in a lab, so if it will fit, I may just get the blade tested in the SEM to verify the material. ;)

I can't wait to cook more things with it. I'm honestly just looking for excuses to use it. I'll update more later after a week or two of use.

11/12/12 Update. Just was cooking chicken breast in the pan and I had to butterfly the chicken breast to cook it all the way through. This knife cut it like butter. I never have used a knife that cut so well. I applied almost no pressure. Very easy to control the cut.

Hampton Forge Silversmiths Newport Mirror 4-Piece Dinner Spoons

Hampton Forge Silversmiths Newport Mirror 4-Piece Dinner SpoonsI bought these spoons a few months ago because some of my old (non-stainless steel, I think) spoons were rusting.

I've been using these on a regular basis and washing them in the dish washer with non-citris soap, and they've been fine. No rusting. I'd recommend these spoons to my friends.

DO NOT buy this spoon set.

They are made of stainless steel, but they got rusty after washed just once.

I could not believe this poor quality.

Buy Hampton Forge Silversmiths Newport Mirror 4-Piece Dinner Spoons Now

A bit disappointed in these spoons. They are oddly shaped. Thin, cheap feeling. The edges aren't smooth...I wouldn't say they are sharp, like I don't feel like they are in any way dangerous, but you could probably gut a mean melon with them. The forks I purchased from the same company, for around the same price, were actually quite nice...so I expected something similar, but oh well.

Gave the product two stars because they still function properly. If for whatever reason I couldn't eat cereal with them, they'd have received one star. But these are better than nothing, and also better than the thick plastic spoons I was using before.

J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 8-Inch Stainless-Steel Bread Knife

J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 8-Inch Stainless-Steel Bread KnifePlease note that I have several Henckel knives that I really like, so this is definitely not a anti-Henckel biased review.

There is really only one problem with this knife the blade is way too thick. If there's only one problem then why do I give it only one star? Well, this one problem completely ruins this knife. The 'eversharp' name I'm sure refers to the fact that the serrations are not the standard "wave pattern" you'd see on most bread knives. Instead, each serration has several smaller serrations and spikes built in. I know that this is supposed to ensure that the knife will never end up dull but in the process it makes it horrible at doing any kind of delicate cutting. Plus, the blade is not flexible in any way due to the extreme thickness. Unless you are cutting the sturdiest bread out there, you'll crush it while trying to slice with this blade. Forget about cutting any kind of soft bread or pastry. I've found that some of our cheap steak knives work far better than this knife.

I've come to the conclusion that this knife is horrible after comparing it to two other bread knives I now own. The first was a Paderno (small Canadian company) that we got for our wedding, and the second was a Global bought from Amazon. Both are considerably more expensive than this knife, but there are other, more economical options out there that are still far better. You want to find a nice, thin blade with even and sharp serrations. If you're looking to stay in this price range, you won't find anything forged these will all be stamped or laser cut but that's fine the bread knife doesn't need to be strong like your chef's knife.

Pros:

-Cheap

Cons:

-Mashes your bread while it cuts

-Hard to get started through crusts due to blade thickness

-The 'spiky' serrations are dangerous to your fingers (think many tiny needles along the blade) they tend to nick you easily but they are useless for their intended purpose of cutting bread.

Suggestion: Steer clear. If you can afford it, get a Global (or even a better Henckel). Otherwise, look for a the thin stamped blade.

This bread knife gets the job done in record time with very little hand/wrist effort. Very little pressure on the knife was needed in order to slice through a loaf of very crusty bread from the bakery. In fact, my hand and wrist felt great after slicing the entire loaf into small pieces for appetizers, and the knife created very few crumbs.

Buy J.A. Henckels International Eversharp Pro 8-Inch Stainless-Steel Bread Knife Now

This is definitely the sturdiest, sharpest bread knife I've ever owned. The blade is completely rigid, no bending ever. The blade is super sharp, easily cutting through bread or whatever else I put it up against. Makes me wonder how I went so long with my old bread knife.

I got tired of cutting my Italian bread loaves with our steak knives and having crumbs all over the cutting board. So I got this bread knife as a gift from my husband. We couldn't wait to use it.

Well we were so disappointed. The blade is very thick and the edges of the knife don't cut easily. We use it on Italian loaves as I mentioned, and you have to push down even harder than we used to with the bread knives, thereby smashing the loaf. And the cutting edge leaves tons of crumbs which means it's not cutting smoothly through the crust.

I would prefer a finer serated edge to cut easier through the Italian bread.

Kyocera Adjustable Mandoline Slicer with Handguard

Kyocera CSN-202-RD Adjustable Mandoline Slicer, RedI use my chef knives for much of my food slicing but when I need a lot of uniform slices I like to use a mandoline. Although I also bought a "professional mandoline", I thought this would make a handy little item. Boy was I right! I use this mandoline more than the professional. Why? It is convenient! It's very sharp (the porcelein blade is much sharper than metal), the hand guard is comfortable and easy to use, the whole device is dishwasher safe, and it takes little counter space and little storage space. I use it to slice veggies for everything from sandwiches to tostadas to soups to breakfast burritos. Here's what it does not do: Although the blade is "adjustable", only the biggest setting works correctly. The smaller settings makes mush of your veggies. Also, it is not quite wide enough. At the thickest part of a big round onion, it would have to be turned sideways. Finally, it only has 1 blade and so it only does the one style of cut. I highly recommend it. It is so easy to use that you will use it frequently. In fact, when you think: "Should I drag out the big mandoline?" You will say "No, I'll just use my little one (the Kyocera)".

The Kyocera adjustable mandoline slicer is an excellent product! I have used mine for almost 1 year and have no major complaints, the only one being that Kyocera could have designed the guard to snap in place covering the blade for storage. I keep mine in the plastic "dome" that it was packaged in. It is definitely VERY SHARP, so use the guard. It will effortlessly slice any vegetable: onions, cucumbers, potatoes, carrots, etc.. Easy to use, no assembly, etc. Highly recommended.

2 great points about this mandolin: ceramic and dishwasher-safe. It is not the most aesthetically pleasing mandolin, surely the shiny metal ones look more professional and flashier. However, for the home-chef who favors functionality over looks, you won't be disappointed with this model. It also has a lip on the bottom making it easy to fit over the edge of a bowl.

One of my biggest pet-peeves about metal mandolins is that they are so difficult to clean. With all the nooks and crannies food gets stuck in and the risk of rust, you have to invest a comparatively significant amount of time in cleaning.

The ceramic blade stays sharp and is superior in my view to any metal blade: you won't have to sharpen it and it does not rust. The only drawback to ceramic is that it is fragile, so you may want to be careful where you store this tool. Haphazardly tossing it in the same drawer you throw your meat tenderizer might not be the best idea.

At ~20$, this tool is a great value. You will spend more on a quality metal mandolin and it will rust. Additionally, if you do happen to accidentally break the blade, it's only 20$ to replace.

Axis 196 The Pull-Out Kitchen Appliance Caddy

Axis 196 The Pull-Out Kitchen Appliance CaddyNot worth $30. It doesn't pull out far enough from the cabinet to open lid of the coffe machine. I still have to lift it out and turn it to fill. I might as well just lift it like I was doing. Very simple roll-out design that doesn't stop if you are not careful. I think $10 would be a reasonable price. Not $30!

I like the looks of this, however it is very easy to pull the top sliding part too far so it comes off the track. I know this but still end up pulling it too far out very often. Also, there are four or five little soft round disks on the bottom of this that I believe are meant to pad it and protect your counter; they fell off within days and I have tried to glue them back on with superglue but they continue to fall off.

Proteak Teak Cutting Board Rectangle 24-by-18-by-1-1/2-Inch Edge Grain with Hand Grip

Proteak Teak Cutting Board Rectangle 24-by-18-by-1-1/2-Inch Edge Grain with Hand GripI bought this based on a recommendation in "Cook's Illustrated" magazine and season 2011 America's Test Kitchen equipment review video. I like the way it looks, it's a great size and thickness, and handles cutting very well, it has convenient hand-holds to lift and carry it. "Cook's Illustrated" said that the weight of the board kept it in place. My beautiful board, however, is not perfectly flat on either side, so it wobbles. I'm dealing with the problem the same way I have to for my cheaper cutting boards, non-skid pads underneath; not a great solution, but I'm keeping the board anyway. My package arrived crushed, the paper product information band torn off and crumbled laying beside the the board (how did that happen, I wonder). The packing tape was barely adhered to the box. What is happening to Amazon's shipping department, or do I blame a 3rd party...too much to think about, I just want to cut my veggies.

Two previous reviewers wrote they got cracked boards. Mine was not only cracked, but it was broken down the middle. The packaging was extremely poor! They did not try to package it properly; the board was placed in in big flat box, with nothing to hold it. Their loss percentage has to be high. They need a good dose of quality control!!

My wife turned me on this. And true to my nature, I did a lot of research before making a purchase. My instructions were to get a big durable cutting board. One that would not slide over the granite counter top. This cutting board weighs about 14 lbs and is 1 1/2" thick.. It isn't going any where. The instructions advise you to put 4 coats of mineral oil (That I bought at Wal-Mart for $1) prior to first use. A over night drying period and testing was under way. Solid, stable surface to work on and with a little care (mineral oil once a month) it will last a life time. Large enough to prepare the evening meal, and stable enough to insure safety with large knives.

These steak knives are very attractive but are best used on meat. There is a curve to the blade which cuts other foods such as tomatoes or even bananas weirdly. It does not cut straight down but pulls to the side when cutting. I use my steak knives as general purpose knives so for me these knives are just not what I needed. They were inexpensive, however, so I just use them for meat and will buy other knives for all purpose cutting

11.5" Aluminum Magna Bar

11.5' Aluminum Magna BarI purchased one of these at a local kitchen store. To mount it to the wall you must remove the endcaps and anchor one of them to the wall. You must then place an anchor on the other side and slide the endcaps together. This is not only difficult to do but makes it almost impossible to get a secure fit. This product is very poorly designed. I returned it for a refund.

First I have to take a moment to say why you want a magnetic knife holder and why you definitely don't want a block. In a word: hygiene.

Dirt, moisture, and other undesirable elements creep into those cozy crevices in your knife block. This makes your knives unsanitary and can even damage the blades by promoting rust or other corrosion. In addition, as another reviewer so aptly pointed out, running your blades into and out of the block slots will invariably wear out the edge.

With a magnetic strip, you can avoid all of the issues of the block while also showcasing the beautiful blades you love so much. A mag strip filled with glimmering steel is truly a sight to behold!

Now, let's talk about this strip specifically...

First and foremost, the magnet strength is perfect. The knives are firmly held to the strip with zero chance of falling or coming off by accident. On the other hand, removing the blade requires minimal effort on your part. You needn't be the least bit concerned about bending or breaking your blade as the strip will release it to you easily upon request.

A quick word about installation: it's tricky. As another reviewer mentioned, to install the strip you must remove the two black end caps, screw them to the wall and then slide the caps back into the strip while holding the strip to the wall. I agree wholeheartedly that the mounting method could have been designed a lot better, but I am not all that mechanically inclined and I managed to get a nice firm mounting in about 10-15 minutes of total installation time. (If you're mounting to drywall make absolutely sure you use anchors!)

In the six months or so I've had it installed I haven't once encountered any wiggling, wobbling, or loose fitthe thing holds to the wall extremely well.

If I had to buy again, I would probably look for something with easier installation but I am nonetheless happy with the one I own.

I put this on the side of my cabinet above my sink and it looks great and is quite functional. It keeps my knives clean and sharp, and looks really sleek. I was unable to find anything else that looked good which was short enough for the side of an upper cabinet.

I was using a utensil tray in a kitchen drawer. It's so much more convenient -and sanitary-to have the knives hanging at your fingertips on the wall. Also better for keeping the blades sharp.

The magnet in the bar is very strong. I wasn't 100% thrilled with the mounting system, and the bar does tend to wobble a little if I pull a knife off too quickly. I think if you are able to install it into the side of a wooden cabinet (my original plan, but ended up not having quite enough room) you won't have any problem with wiggling.

BergHOFF 7-Piece Forged Knife Block Set

BergHOFF 7-Piece Forged Knife Block SetI just got these knives yesterday, so these are mainly my initial impressions. The packaging is not that great. I don't know if most knife sets come like this, but I was a little surprised. Everything was wrapped in cheap plastic and had some manufacturing residue on it. The block had bits of glue in random spots that had to be cleaned off. I cleaned the block and washed all the knives and everything looks good. There are a few hairline scratches on one or two knives, nothing major. On each knife, it says X30Cr14 which I believe has something to do with Chromium. It also says "D10", "Rostfrei", "BergHOFF", and gives the length. I can't tell where these knives are made. I looked all over the packaging to no avail. BergHOFF is a Belgian company so take that for what it's worth. I even looked on their website and there is no real info I could find.

The knives are solid and heavy feeling. With the counter balance they are a pleasure to hold. You can hold the knife with one finger. Just put the finger on the bottom near the middle of the handle (right side up) and it will balance nicely. They come nice and sharp, but make sure you have a way to sharpen them since there is no steel. I'm not an expert on knives so I can't tell the difference, but these are forged, not stamped. Berghoff recommends that these be hand washed. I'll update this review with cutting performance and durability later.

Overall, these are some very nice knives, and I recommend them.

As soon as I held the first knife I was so very impressed with the ergonomic and balanced handle. I just received them today and will use for the first time tonight ... will follow up on how they perform. From the feel and visual inspection, I anticipate an very good experience. Can't wait!

I consider myself a pretty accomplished cook and have used good quality level J.A. Henkels for years and also have a set of Miricale Knives(yuck!) that will go to charity. The Henkels have served their purpose, but they don't keep the edge and I can't stand to use serrated knives for every day prepping ~ I feel like I'm ripping or tearing whatever I'm cutting, instead of slicing through. And, the Henkels handles are not ergonomic ~ the BergHOFF fits like a glove.

Just as advertised, I love these knives.. i bought my father a 250 dollar set of "Wusty's" and they are nice, but i like these MUCH better. So many people say if it "aint a wustoff than it aint a knife". Thats ridiculous to think that no one else in the world can make a great knife? these are quality, full tang, triple riveted, and excellently crafted knives! you will NOT be disappointed. The balance IS fantastic, even the aesthetics of theses knives is awesome (less important I know, but defiantly worth mentioning)Also the bamboo knife block with stainless bracket is VERY nice in craftsmanship too.. somthing that was not the case with the expensive wustoff set i bout my dad? the knife block that comes with this set DOES NOT feel like a "freebie" or throw in item. I took a gamble to buy a knife online and im try to share my success. I really like these knives.

Excellent knives set, they are very resistant and usable. In comparison to other knives like WMF, they can keep it up without having to pay that much.

The shipping was fast and the seller shiped internationally without problems!!!

I wanted a knife set that didn't seem cheap and wasn't super expensive.

This is the right set!

It comes with 6 pieces plus the block and it looks great on counter.

Some of the knifes are a bit heavy so when handling some of the bigger knifes it may resemble a workout.

Also the scissors are a great addition however the clasp is not guaranteed to stay locked and I would much rather prefer a sharpening tool.

Zhen Japanese Damascus 6.5" Light Cleaver Chopping Knife set

Zhen Japanese Damascus 6.5' Light Cleaver Chopping Knife setWe have been using cheap cleavers for awhile and now want to upgrade to a higher end one. After some research, we picked this one since it's priced similar to high-end German knives but with better Damascus steel imported from Japan. Plus, we like to support our folks since we are Chinese and this is made in Taiwan. This is also my first Amazon review.

I don't have a Shun cleaver but do have two paring knives made by Shun. Putting this cleaver on the side of the Shun, you can see the devil is in the details.

You can immediately notice: the Shun knives have flawless finishes throughout, the surface has higher gloss with even dragon pattern. The Zhen has less shine, the alternating pattern is also nice but appears not as evenly distributed.

The craftsmanship: as another reviewer of the Zhen 8" cleaver pointed out, the attachment of the handle to the rear of the bolster is not as smooth. There is even maybe a tiny gap on the bottom side. There are multiple noticeable scratches on the blade, especially on the surface between the blade and bolster transition tiny scratch pattern makes you feel this part was not well polished. There is a rather deep scratch about 5 mm long on the edge of the end cap of the handle. Also, I noted the burrs a few strokes on a steel easily took care of it; however, I should not have to do this with a new knife, especially one with a price tag considered expensive for most people.

One thing I don't understand, this one claims to have 67 layers, but Shun claims only 16 layers on each side. I counted the coarse lines on the blade: both have 15 lines. So I assume they have same number of layers.

Again, none of the above affects the usability of the knife. It's light, thin and razor sharp, perfect for Asians with smaller hands. With the material used, I expect it to perform much better than the cheaper cleavers we have been using. However, at this price, the company really should pay more attention to the details to be able to put this side by side with the higher-end German and Japanese made knives (think about someone wants to give this as a wedding gift, appearance will be as important as function). The minors flaws mentioned above are easily avoidable but definitely hurt the presentation of the product, I don't even see these problems in my cheap JCPenny Cooks cleaver made in China. Hence the subtraction of one star.

Not much to say about the carving knife. It also has burrs on the edge needed a couple of strokes on a sharpening steel. For $10 extra, I picked this set instead of the cleaver alone to get a small, sharp knife made of VG-10 core: seems to be good deal.

Next Day Gourmet Hightower Flatware, Soup/Dessert Spoon 12 per case, 12/BX

Next Day Gourmet Hightower Flatware, Soup/Dessert Spoon 12 per case, 12/BXBecause the outside edges of this spoon aren't sufficiently polished, it feels like the edges are cutting the inside of your mouth with each spoonfull.

I bought six spoons exactly like this at Wal-Mart, where they were priced at a buck each. They're nothing special, I suppose, but they are very good for eating soup and chili. The edges of my spoons are smooth and don't cut my tongue, as another reviewer said they did to his.

We bought this pattern 30 years ago for our wedding. The pic looks the same, but the spoon (and fork) are comparatively lightweight and lacking the buffed finish of the original; feels tinny in your hand. I would have been happy to pay more. I really don't think it's reasonable that the price 30 years later should be the same. Buying online will take a hit if it is typified by this kind of pictorial representation posing to be the original item. We'll save these for the picnic basket and continue looking for the well made original.

I entertain a lot and many times I serve steak, ever eat that with plastic? Sucks, Sam's solution, sucks too! I have found my solution with these great quality utensils! Some of the reviews speak of rough edges, I have not experienced any of this and have had several compliments regarding how nice they are. Nice weight, nice balance and finish. Highly recommended!

Kitchenaid 14-PC Fine Edge Forged Cutlery Set with Bonus

Kitchenaid 14-PC Fine Edge Forged Cutlery Set with BonusThis is an ok knife set. The block that comes with it is cheaply made. The slots for the steak knives are too close together so the handles (which are a tacky rubber) rub against one another, so you may accidentally pull out two knives when only trying to take one out. The bread knife is too serrated to the point where you destroy bread as opposed to cutting through it. They seem to hold an edge farily well for the price, and I like the size of the french knife. I've come to the realization that a knife set like this is really unnecessary for me personally. I'd rather buy the knives I need. This was a 10th Anniversary gift for work, so I'm glad I have it and thank work for it. It should last awhile if I keep them sharp (and safe).

I've had my set for many years. Other than the knife block having knicks from missed insertions, each and every knife is as good as it was since I got the set. Had them professionally sharpened for the first time last year.

I've only ever hand washed them, as instructed.

Kitchen Aid used to be a brand name you could depend on to mean "quality". I think my mixer will last 100 years. Unfortunately, this knife set is not one of their better products. The knives are supposedly made from stainless steel, but if so it is very low grade, because these knives rust!!! Even running them through the dishwasher leaves little rust spots on them. I'm very disappointed by this purchase.

I can't say I have the same complaints as some of the other reviewers. The knife set is solid, and they knives are well balanced. I agree that the wood block isn't stellar, but it's not bad, and the knives don't crowd one another.

Maybe they've changed the set over time, but my handles aren't rubber, I'd say they're a ceramic composite. Hard to the touch and smooth.

The knives are all quite sharp, and I haven't had any issues with dulling yet, though I've only had it for 4 months. Time will tell if they also rust like other users report, however I would hazard a guess that some user's issues with rust are due to running the knives through the dishwasher. It says on the box, and in the description online that the dishwasher is not recommended to clean the knives, which is common for any higher quality cookware.

Everyone will have their own expectations, but personally I find myself happy with the set, and variety of knives provided.

I received this set as a gift for Christmas. I use some of them, don't really use others... I take care of them as per the instructions that came with them. I mean, they are knives so it's not rocket science, right???

Well, they are all rusting! The knives and the scissors. This is not a cheap set of knives and the blades are all rusting. I can't believe my eyes and it's embarrassing because when I have my mother over, she wonders why I'm not using them... Thinks her money went to waste but I don't want to embarrass her further by making her think she bought an inferior product. In the process now of trying to get a replacement to a completely different set because an entire set cannot be simply defective and must be poorly made. Wish I could get a refund and buy a completely different brand.

I'd give it zero stars if that were an option. Don't waste your money.

Glitter Galore Wedding Cake Knife and Server Set

Glitter Galore Wedding Cake Knife and Server SetI. Had ordered this for my wedding and then got a call from the company not even two weeks before that sorry they were out and needed to order something else and boy was I mad. So u ask why give five stars.... The owner had called and told me I can either pick something new or she will call me back within two days if she found it elsewhere and would ship it overnight. That day she called and bought me the same one elsewhere shipped it immediately for no charge, I could not of asked for better more pleasant customer service. I will always remember that and highly recommend this company to everyone. Also this set was so beautiful

I purchased this set for my upcoming wedding. I was a little concerned that for the price of the item it would feel light and flimsy or that the crystals would look cheap. The item feels pretty heavy and isn't flimsy at all. The material is stainless steel and the crystals are beautiful (you can't tell on the picture, but the crystals are both the front and backside of the handles). I am really excited about this product and happy that I purchase it.

Great product!!! I must admit, I was a little concern the Cake Server Set and the Champagne flutes were going to look cheap, BUT they DON'T! They look beautiful in person. Heavy duty. I am happy I bought it. I cant wait to use them. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. They are perfect, beautiful, elegant, and stunning for a Wedding or Anniversary!! I LOVE them.

Victorinox 8-Piece Knife Block set

Victorinox 8-Piece Knife Block setI was using a Wustof Classic chef's knife to do everything in the kitchen, and wanted a set of "beater" knives that would provide some other functions, and also so I wouldn't yell at guests for mistreating the Wustof. I chose the Victorinox set over lower priced sets such as Chicago cutlery because nearly every knife in this set was rated #1 (over much fancier knives) by Cook's Illustrated. In fact, when Cook's Illustrated rated knife sets, I guess victorinox didn't have one available, and their recommendation was to buy a block and populate it with Victorinox models.

In a head to head comparison with the Wustof, the Victorinox chef's knife was a few ounces lighter, and the balance was more blade heavy. The Victorinox out of the box was as sharp as the Wustof, which is about halfway between professional sharpenings. that is to say, the victorinox is impressive right out of the box. The slightly different balance takes a little getting used to if you've been using big german steel all your life, but it's not bad. The victorinox has a great handle design and is better for two handed mincing.

The selection of the knives in this set is perfect. there are no useless knives to pad the number in the set, this has everything you'd need except a cleaver. It also offers a 10" slicer instead of the 8" slicer offered by chicago and other, cheaper sets, and has very good quality shears.

It's hard for me to think of these as beater knives now, until I remember the price. If I accidentally burn my place down and have to get new knives, I would probably just buy this set and not replace the Wustof, then maybe add in a cleaver and the 5" mini chef's knife from Victorinox.

These knives are an incredible value.

These knives feel very good in your hands. The Fibrox has a texture that helps you maintain a firm grip even if your hands are damp. The Chef's knife cuts through vegetables like they aren't even there. Knowing that I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for this set makes me even happier.

A quick review: I chose this knife set based on the reviews by Cooks Illustrated. Their reviews seems fair, thoughtful, and well-tested. The knives are incredible. I haven't ever had a decent set in my life and this was my moment to splurge on a set. A remarkable price for the set and impressive reviews by all!

purchased this knife set about a month ago and have only one real complaint and that being that the knife block didn't have any extra slots for steak knives. the knives that came with the set are really great. have never really owned a decent set of knives before and am really pleased with this set. my first real use was in making clam chowder that calls for salt pork. the french knife cut through the salt pork like cutting through a stick of butter. have always had to fight through the pork back with the cheap knives that i have owned. no more!!!! :))
