Zyliss Pizza Slicer with Crust Cutter

Zyliss Pizza Slicer with Crust CutterI'm quite upset about this product, considering I bought it from a local hardware store and paid a premium for it, with misplaced confidence in the brand name. It lasted about 6 months (light home use) before the cheap plastic nut holding on the disc broke. (It's actually a small metal nut embedded in the larger plastic thumb-screw.)

This is a really incredibly shortsighted design decision on an otherwise nice product. Zyliss, stop cutting corners to save yourselves some pennies; It hurts you in the long run, as I will never buy another Zyliss product. Amazon shoppers, do not buy.

I agree with the other negative reviews. I bought due to advertising and Zyliss' reputation but have been very disappointed. The "crust cutter" is useless for my thick-crust, homemade pizza. It's duller and thicker than a table knife, so it merely smashes the crust; it cannot cut because there is nothing to cut with. The nut holding the wheel on is so shoddy that it disintegrated after only a few uses, and I've been unable to locate an acceptable replacement part. Buyer beware!

Whoever designed this thing needs to -in the words of Agent K -"go home and do it again".

The cutting wheel is wobbly, never aligns with the crust slicer (which doesn't really "slice" as much as "flatten"). Eventually, after tightening it so many times, the plastic screw just broke and I chucked the thing in the trash.

Not recommended.

What we really love about this slicer is that it is perfect for our needs. We make our own protein bars. Part of our recipe uses egg whites as a binding agent so we have to bake them.

Well this slicer makes cutting them a breeze, and the "crust cutter" edger allows us to cut down right next to the edges of the pyrex pans that we use. A normal slicer won't get into those corners so this thing is GREAT.

Want Zyliss Pizza Slicer with Crust Cutter Discount?

This cutter solves the problem of not being able to cut all the way to the crust in a deep-dish pan or a box. It also comes apart easily for cleaning, which is great. The only reason I knocked off a star is that the cover doesn't stay on at all. Give it a better cover to help protect it in my drawer and it gets five stars.

Hamilton Beach 74275 Chrome Classic Electric Knife with Case, Black

Hamilton Beach 74275 Chrome Classic Electric Knife with Case, BlackI shopped at many places and saw many electric knives before I decided to buy this set. I am so glad I waited to make my purchase. The knife is beautiful, and it makes a clean smooth cut. I am impressed with the quality for the price. I loved getting the matching serving fork as an extra in the set. I have used this knife on brisket, ribs, and a prime rib and I am totally satisfied. I highly recommend this set to any and all in need of a beautiful set that works.

We owned this knife for one day, then took it back.

The pros:

It's electric

The Cons:

I used it to carve a boneless cooked pork roast, turkey and pre-sliced ham. I didn't attempt to cut through bone or gristle.

Design: ergonomically poorly designed; poorly balanced, heavy in weight without being sturdy in performance or power; blades wobble even after being inserted properly and then reinserted just to make sure. The more you use it, the more they wobble.

Motor: Gives off a tremendous amount of heat making the unit almost difficult to hold; seems motor is underpowered.

On Button: If your hands get the least bit greasy it's very easy for your trigger finger and supporting fingers to slip dangerously close to the blades. I attribute this to the poor balance of the knife and poorly designed handle.

Recommendation: Don't buy this. Consider the Black & Decker slim line model, which I have owned in the past and intend to purchase again. My old B & D gave up the ghost after many years of service, primarily since I cut through some frozen desserts.

Although this knife looks good and cuts well, the trigger you pull when cutting is quite awkward and I found it difficut to cut any meat without feeling strain on my hand and arm. After carving a large roast I was exhausted! I don't recommend this product to anyone and threw it away.

Best looking knife that doesn't perform to suite me. Purchased as replacement for 15 year old knife worn out knife and saw a good review. Trigger is very awkward. If you have very large hands, you may like the size. It is good looking and has nice case but I do not reccomend for use.

Want Hamilton Beach 74275 Chrome Classic Electric Knife with Case, Black Discount?

I am a woman, and found this knife bulky to use, my arm was exhausted when cutting a roast. This knife has the knife release on the top, so when you are trying to cut, 1 finger is on the trigger, and your thumb fits right on top of the knife release, you had to think about moving your thumb away from that buttom, so it would not release while you are cutting. I may just throw it away and buy a more user friendly model.

Messermeister Meridian Elite 8-Inch Offset Scalloped Knife

Messermeister Meridian Elite 8-Inch Offset Scalloped KnifeI bought a knife a year ago and paid a lot of money for it and was very unhappy with it, it never felt right in my hand, when I saw this knife it looked different with the off set handle and wanted to try it, the second I took it out of its cool packaging, it felt right in my hand, it is weighted well and the spine goes all the way through the handle and it cuts wonderfully smooth. I was showing it off to anyone who would listen (after all they heard me b*+%!! about the other) and they were happy to hear I was was pleased, my son was the first to inspect it and he thought it was the best knife he ever held. Epicurean Non Slip Gripper Recycled Cardboard Cutting Board, Nutmeg with Red Silicone Grippers

Epicurean 18 by 13-Inch Non Slip Gripper Recycled Cardboard Cutting Board, Nutmeg with Red Silicone Grippersthis cutting board is great in many ways. I like that the rubber feet keep it a little bit off the counter; I'll often use this when cutting something messy or pungent by placing it on top of my main cutting board, using it, washing it, and wiping it clean. It's not really big enough for onions, but it's a great size for chopping garlic, shallots, etc.

The only problem I have is that after using it for a while, we pulled off one of the rubber feet, and it was FULL of mold and nasty food particles. All 4 feet can easily be pulled off (they're just pressure fitted). When washing the cutting board, the feet need to be removed and cleaned, at least every once in a while. Kinda defeats the purpose of the cutting board, IMO. As long as you can stand this little issue, it's a great cutting board.

These are the only cutting boards I will use now. I have 4, of all sizes. They make chopping, dicing and slicing a total joy. Of course, good knives complete the purchase. We only use Wusthof and Shun (Japanese) cutlery...although I am sure there are other fabulous lines out there I've not yet heard of.

Do yourself a favor and buy multiples of this cutting board. Of course, we still have a wonderful old Boos Block that we love, but the Epicureans are my everyday go-to now.

I bought this after taking knife skills class at Sur La Table where they recommended this type of board. It is nice looking and a great size. After using it for few months, though, the board isn't looking very good. Unlike bamboo or wooden boards, though, oiling it doesn't restore the finish very much. The cut marks are very, very visible and the board looks kind of crappy for lack of better word. It works great though.

I have read about these cutting boards in several cooking magazines. I have this one and a larger one with grooves around the edge, just like the one linked but without dark color in groove. This size is perfect for cutting up an onion etc, multiple small jobs. Would use my larger one for meat. I am quite pleased with these boards. As the product info states they don't dull knives or hold bacteria. If you're big on enviornmental issues, these boards are usually made from recycled paper. The board is solid but light weight which is nice, easily lifted with one hand even loaded with chopped food. Makes it easy to slide food off the board into your pan. The silicone corners keep the board from slipping around on the counter. I plan to replace my old scarred up plastic boards with this type. So far no visable scratches and no stains, dishwasher safe. A real winner.Epicurean Cutting Surfaces 18-by-13-Inch Gourmet Cutting Board with Juice Groove, Natural with Slate-Colored Core

Rada Cutlery Serving Spatula, Aluminum Handle, Made in USA (Pack of 2 - R114/2)

Rada Cutlery Serving Spatula, Aluminum Handle, Made in USAI recently switched all my utensils and things in my kitchen to products that were made in the USA. I found Rada cutlery after doing a search on Amazon for kitchen utensils made in the USA. These are great quality, and I am very pleased that I made the purchase. All my cooking utensils are now Rada cutlery and I ditched all the Kitchen Aid ones.

Christmas 2011 ABC TV challenged us to spend $60 on American made articles. If every American spent this much we could turn our economy around. I wasn't looking for spatulas only found these when I searched "made in America". I love these. They are small and efficient. Unlike their plastic counterparts they take up little storage space. I had purchased a set of steak knives and small knives in a specialty shop in Gatlinburg Tennessee years ago. If there were instructions to not put in the dishwasher I did not pay any attention hence the handles darkened. This did not effect the quality or performance of the cutlery. To hit the $60 dollar amount I purchased several other items made by Rada . After a year and 2 months usage and hand washing they are just like the day I opened the box. I am pleased.

Wusthof Classic 6-Piece Block Set with Bonus Shear

Wusthof Classic 6-Piece Block Set with Bonus ShearI graduated to this set after using a Henckels Fine Edge set. While this is the standard of the Wusthof line, the Henckels Fine Edge is the low end of Henckels and therefore cannot be compared. However, this set is of excellent quality and performance. The price has gone up since I purchased my set, but I still think this is a good deal. The chef' knife is on the small side, but the block has a few extra slots to expand the collection. My next purchase will probably be a Wusthof Classic Santoku or larger chef's knife.

$219 for a seven piece set of forged steel? with room for more knives? bought seperately on amazon these would have cost me $350 plus. I love the serrated 5 inch knife, perfect for tomatoes. the 4.5 inch utility knife threw me: i have one i bought from a cooking school almost 2 yrs ago. I swear my old one is heavier, and the blade thicker and edged on both sides. the NEW 4.5 inch has less of an edge, is lighter and the blade seems thinner. and in 2 weeks of use it aquired a miniscule bend to the tip, as if it were stamped (tho it's not). the obvious diifference between the new and old is that the new has a little "tic tac toe" graphic on it with the alloy specs underneath. does anyone know what this means? does this indicate a newer generation of the knife? none of the others in the block have this. I'm giving away the new 4.5 and keeping my old

Joyce Chen 51-0621, 6-1/4-Inch Unlimited Scissors

Joyce Chen 51-0621, 6-1/4-Inch Unlimited Scissors, BlueI bought my first pair of these little scissors about 20 years ago and still use them today. They are practically indestructible, however I did manage to melt a spot on the handle when I accidentally laid them on a hot burner. Nevertheless, they still work perfectly and are still sharp after 20 years. I finally broke down and ordered a second pair. If they weren't quite as expensive, I would have a pair in every room. They are just so handy, and even though they are small, they will cut practically anything. They are also very comfortable to use as the handles are large enough for just about any hands.

I actually don't think I could cook without a pair of these in the kitchen. They are the best thing I've found for snipping a few fresh herbs, and can go right to the garden to cut fresh flowers for the dinner table. I have also used them to cut through chicken bones and then tossed them into the dishwasher for sanitizing. If I were to make a list of my favorite kitchen items, these would be right up there with my microplane grater and extra long cooking tweezers that also make my life so much simpler. Bottom line is buy some, you'll love them!

I heard about these scissors from another student in my metalsmithing class. She raved about them and showed me how great they are for cutting sheet metal. When I got home I the first thing I did was go online and order them. They arrived before my next class the following Saturday. I absolutely LOVE them!!

That'll teach her...

I own three or four pairs of these scissors and wouldn't be without them. A marvel of simple, elegant design, they are tough, sharp, versatile, and comfortable. The large handle loops let you use all four fingers on one side and your whole thumb on the other -they work the same for lefties and righties -or, for even more leverage, you can grab them by the outsides of the handles, which are covered with a rubbery plastic for comfort. When I got my first pair about 25 years ago (still have 'em) I used to show off by using them to cut bottle caps in half. Yet they'll cut paper cleanly. We keep my old pair in the garden for cutting greens, pruning tomatoes, cutting twine and the like, a pair in the junk drawer for all-purpose cutting, and one in the kitchen for everything from slicing open spice packets to cutting up poultry. Can't have too many of these.

Chicago Cutlery Woodworks 19-1/2" x 13-1/2" Cutting Board

Chicago Cutlery Woodworks 19-1/2' x 13-1/2' Cutting BoardThe board is the right size for carving up a whole chicken and the "moat", while modest in width/depth, kept the counters clean. Another plus is that it is reasonably light for its size. The one small surprise for me is that the wood is so very dry. It soaked up two very generous applications of mineral oil very quickly. If it doesn't come with oiling instructions, you'll still want to oil it as soon as possible and perhaps with multiple applications each spaced out by a day.

New comments:

After seasoning the board, hand washing, and 6 months of happy use, the board split along a glued joint. This happened after it had been sitting on the counter for a week under the weight of a homemade loaf of bread and a medium-weight glass cake cover. My best guess is that the board had become just slightly (and most imperceptively) warped and the constant distributed weight provided enough stress to crack apart the glue overnight -6+" of it! I know nothing about woodworking but I doubt that seasoning alone can strengthen a joint or prevent minor warpage. So I'm lowering the product to a 3 star rating.

1/17/08: Maybe I need a life but I just thought I'd add that there has been no further splitting after 1.5 years of use. I guess nothing is perfect and I certainly still enjoy using the board very much.

I just recently ordered and received this item (with lightening fast speed) and I am really impressed. I won a set of nice Chicago Cutlery knives in a survey contest and started doing some research on how to keep them nice and sharp for the longest time possible. I found out a nice good board of maple or cherry that was at least an inch thick was the best bet. I am following the oiling instructions since before I didn't do that and all of my cutting boards would split. Also, not allowing my hubby to put them in the dishwasher is a good idea as well. It looks like it will stand up to the job and it is big enough to carve a ham or roast so we love it!

This cutting board is the right size and has the right "ergonomics." Though it could easily be a "both sides" type cutting board, you'll likely only use the top side with it's perimeter juice groove (sorry, don't know what it's normally called--perhaps PJG will catch on...) and the classy "Chicago Cutlery" moniker burned-in to the face. But, hey, we just talking about wooden cutting boards, right? What besides good size, the right weight, and a PJG do you need? Well folks, this board has got it! It's beautiful cherry color--not pine or plastic-colored but truly gorgeous cherrywood coloration. And after seasoning my new board with mineral oil before first use the deep color was only enhanced. This board is a fine product.

Well, Now I bought this after reading plenty of reviews and I am only a satisfied customer. I still feel I could have made a better choice. The product turned out to be just ok. It bent after couple of months of use. I followed all the instructions of care before using it but in 2 months I saw a dent and it was slowly bending. But after 6 months, I see it is coming back to its shape. I don't know how it is possible but it happened.

It is large board. You can cut couple of onions, couple of tomatoes, 3 potatoes, bunch of cilantro and still find place to chop up garlic and ginger. That's something I figured out!! But one thing that didn't go well with me were the corners. For some reason I wish they were fully flat without having those ridges. Food gets stuck in between them and clean up becomes a hassle. And if you want to slide off the veggies from the board to your hands it becomes quite hard since it gets stuck in those ridges.

For the price it is ok!! but I would still look around for something better! Final wordI am not ecstatic about the buy!!

This board is beautiful, perfect size next to my sink, and so far has worn really well. It functions not only as a cutting board but a staging area for dishes after eating. I treated it with mineral oil when I got it, which brought out the grain even more. I highly recommend this one.

Zwilling JA Henckels TWIN Pro-S Hollow-Edge Santoku

Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Pro S 7-Inch Santoku Knife with Hollow EdgeFirst, not sure what reviewers are talking about-sounds like some of them received the wrong knife and did not return it, but I'll speak specifically on the J.A. Henckels Pro S 7" Santoku Knife with Hollow Edge.

I own several knives, but I find that I use this one almost exclusively-it cuts through anything with ease and minimal force-I've used it on chicken, beef, pork chops, onions, peppers, garlic, ginger, carrots, broccoli, grapefruit... I could go on, but I suspect you get the point (and I wanted to emphasize-these are thought of as vegetable knives-it cuts through anything with ease, though I haven't-and won't-try it through bone). The only problem with it is that it cuts so well, I have to be careful not to cut things too small because its so easy to work with!

I also find that things I'd normally use a paring knife for, like mincing garlic, I'm using this. Additionally, per advertisement, nothing sticks to the side of the blade due to the hollowed out grooves. Not really sure how it works, but I don't really care. This is really a superb knife and has taken its place as my main all purpose knife.

You need to make sure that you have the "PRO S" version of this knife as Henckels has several 7-Inch Santoku knives with hollow edge and they had been shipping wrong ones in the past. However, they might have straightened out their act after I reported the mistake to their customer service. So, please, please make sure you knife says "PRO S" and has a twin tribal men on the logo.

As some of the previous reviewers posted (and some had been deleted), Amazon had been listing the wrong item here. Many people were purchasing the Henckels International Classic 7-Inch Santoku Knife with Hollow Edge, not "Part of the Pro S series of cutlery" as stated in the Amazon product review by Cristina Vaamonde or the "J.A. Henckels Professional S 7 inch Santoku knife with hollow edge" as stated in the Amazon product description. And even though the photo of the product shows the double Henckels men, the knife being shipped only had one Henckels man...another indication that it's not worth $74.99-$84.99 Amazon price or the $110.00 retail price it's listing. The International Classic knife can be purchased at Target, JCPenny and a whole bunch of other stores for the retail price of $39.99. If you paid $74.99-84.99 for the wrong knife, please get your money back!!!

My husband purchased the Pro S Santoku knife as a gift. I had been drooling over them for a year, but thought the expense was too much to put out "for a knife". But, since I am always cooking, and we felt it was a wise investment,I finally received one. I do not look at knives in the same way any longer.

First, let me say that without a doubt, the investment is WORTH IT. I knew this the first slice I made through a potato. It was as if I were cutting through butter with a hot knife. So smooth so quick. I was amazed.

Once I got used to how sharp it is (was actually proud of my first cut) and how to handle it, there is no stopping to what I can cut. I use it on vegetables of all kinds, cubing beef, and even slicing through thick sandwiches. I make sure I use the truing blade, and it's as if I just purchased it.

I am so pleased with Henckles, that I now own the cleaver, paring knife, and chef's knife. My husband and I have decided to collect the Pro S line for our kitchen. Great quality, solid handles, even weight and swift through anything you put them to. Would recommend to anyone who is looking to invest in their kitchen's hardware. I know I will be pleased with them for many years to come.

Musical Cake Serving Knife plays Happy Birthday

Musical Cake Serving Knife plays Happy BirthdayI ordered two cake servers as I planned to give one away. When they arrived only one worked. A week later I went to wrap the other, as a gag gift, and it was not working. Then it made a few peeps, worked again, then stopped. I gave it a a gift and luckily it worked when it was unwraped. Do not purchase. I read the other negative review but went ahead with my purchase because it was so inexpensive. Still not worth the cost.

As another reviewer mentioned, this is made of plastic. However, it was plenty strong to cut cake and serve it without any problems.

Others have pointed out that there is no 'on/off' switch, but it's not designed that way. The music plays when your skin touches two different parts of the handle. The music stops if you

1) hold the knife in a slightly different position, or

2) put the knife down.

The kids loved it they all wanted to take turns using the knife to cut the cake! It was fun. It got old after a while so I just held the knife differently and it was great.

Le Creuset Stoneware 4-Piece Dinnerware Set, Flame

Le Creuset Stoneware 4-Piece Dinnerware Set, FlameI must first warn you about the size, the weight, and structure of this dinnerware, especially the plates. The sizes are much larger then normal dinner plates and if you are on a diet. I would recommend using the salad plate instead. However, we loved the plates, we have a complete set and we don't expect to purchase anymore dinner ware in the near future. If you are having company, planning a party, or just entertaining, then these are the dinner plates you need to have. One more comment, if you have an older model dishwasher, the dinner plates maybe not fit. So, be careful. Otherwise, great dishes.

Prodyne K-4-W Cheese Knives with Polished Wood Handles , Set of 4

Prodyne K-4-S Stainless Steel Cheese Knives, Set of 4These are awesome! We have a modern decor to our house with a lot of stainless steel throughout (including our staircases). Most cheese knife sets have wooden handles and those just would not look as good with our decor. I came across these and am super impressed.

We have a cheese slate that we purchased from Amazon and these look super on it.

I was a little bit afraid they were going to feel and look cheap (such as hollow, super light handles). However, I am pleasantly surprised -the manufacturing is top notch and each knife has good heft (especially in the handle it feels like it is solid throughout). The stainless steel quality itself is very nice, too. Each knife is manufactured to be a solid piece with no seams where the knife meets the handle.

The knives all are nice and sharp. I hand wash these instead of running them through the dishwasher since dishwashers have a habit of dulling sharp edges. I am not sure if I will need to sharpen them in the future but so far so good.

I needed these knives becaue I've been trying to add more cheeses into my diet and have been buying Artisanal cheese made in many different countries. Some are hard some soft...and everything in between.

These knives fit the bill for me...they were relatively inexpensive...I like that a lot.

The matt metal finish is beautiful and is very easy to clean--no wood to discolor or damage.

The shape of these knives will fit everybodys hands including the biggest mans hands. No fussy ...fickle look here...nice round shape --easy to hold onto.... They arrive ready to "cut that cheese !!" I do already own some fussy cheese knives for those real soft cheese anyway....This set is for those "other " firmer cheeses.

They work great...clean up easy...good price. What else would anyone want in Cheese knives !!!

They are great !!!!

This set of four cheese knives are stainless steel but brushed resembling brushed nickel. They look wonderful on a porcelain or granite chees tray. More importantly, they work beautifully with the cheeses. The package has a listing of which utensil to use with which type of cheese and I cut it out to keep for future uses. I was so pleased with them I bought another set for my son.

I love the size, shape, look and feel of these knives. The set was exactly what we wanted. But after two months of use two of the four are so rusted they are unusable.

This is my alternative set of cheese knives. I use a lot of cheese when I am entertaining and I needed another set of cheese knives. My other sets are much larger with long handles (Nambe).

What I like about this set is how compact it is. Yet each knife is heavy and sharp enough to cut through a tough (but yummy) compte or parmesan cheese. If you have not used a cheese knife set before, this may not be the one to start with. It does not offer some of the better knife options for cutting through softer/medium cheeses. Overall this is a good set and meets my needs as an additional set for entertaining.

I have small hends and these fit perfectly in my hands. The handles are designed well for gripping. My husband, who is a firefighter, hands enormous hands. He has no problems with these knives either and I sometimes catch him using the the fork of the knife for the hardest cheeses on other items at a buffet table. They are that comfortable that you just carry them with you. The simple nickle finish and sleek design with compliment almost any tabletop and decor.

Enjoy fromage!

Kuhn Rikon Nonstick Serrated Knife

Kuhn Rikon 4-Inch Nonstick Colori Serrated Paring Knife, GreenI found the best price for this knife on Amazon after reading a review in the NY Times. A great utility knife for slicing small fruits and vegetables!

I have used the Kuhn Rikon parers and been very satisfied with their performance. So I decided to give this small Paring Knife a place in my backpack camping supplies. Very pleased with it--it's just the right size and the protective sheath makes it a plus! I used it for onions, tomatoes, and other veggies. Handled everything with ease! Love the colors!

The blade is sharp, the colors are whimsical, and use the sheath to protect both the knife in the drawer and the hand that reaches in!

I am always on the hunt for a tomato knife. I had a red one of these but it disappeared from my kitchen before I could give it a timely try. Anything in a color suckers me in. I loved this knife but it only lasted one tomato season and I am not certain how to resharpen the serrated edges. It has been sent to the back of the knife drawer in the "this-doesn't-work-anymore-but-I-can't-bear-to-throw-it-away" zone. It has lots of company.

This is a great little knife. I bought it to keep in my lunch box to cut up fruit at work. It is very sharp and slices through apples like nobody's business. I love that it has a protective sheath so I can just throw it in the bag and go.

I know it sounds silly, but I'd rather use a bright green knife at work because people always freak out when they see you using a normal kitchen knife in public. This knife looks plastic and I haven't heard any Norman Bates jokes since I started using it.

These microwave pans are very useful for cooking in my microwave. I use them all of the time. The handle just snap right in place. They are a good size for small and large microwaves.
