Messermeister 16 Pocket Culinary Satchel, Black

Messermeister 16 Pocket Culinary Satchel, BlackWas nervous about ordering this because there were no reviews, so allow me to be the first to say that this is a great product! All 3 compartments are accessible from one zipper, so you don't need 7 sq feet of space to open it all the way & find what you're looking for...the only downside of that is that you're hanging all your hopes on one zipper & if it fails you you're sunk! But it feels strong and secure. Everything from my old Koobi Kit (whose zippers DID fail me) fit neatly inside, so it's roomy....can't wait to get out there and break it in!

I've bought this article a few weeks ago and it fullfill my expectations but it came with some minor sewing defects that I had to repair

New version of the 16 pocket messermeister, I love the bag. I has bigger pocket that fit many things. Material seemed better than the older version. One thing Amazon should list that this bag came with a strap, so no one will order a strap along with the knife bag.

I have this case filled all the way up and I have issues closing it. The zipper would bulge and it would not zip right. I also had an issue with one of the teeth on the zipper getting out of place and it would not zip right. I called Messermeister they did replace the case. I will end up replacing it soon though.

Art and Cook 5" Forged Stainless Steel Steak Knife Set of 4

Art and Cook 5' Forged Stainless Steel Steak Knife Set of 4I was just looking for a set of green handled knives for my camper. I found this and thought I loved the color and they appeared to be a sturdy contruction. Was I right about that, they are a very nice heavy knife with a very sharp serrated blade. Very please with the quality of the knife and still love the green.

Red Assorted Disposable Cutlery, 48 Piece Set, 16 Spoons, 16 Forks, 16 KnivesThese are very cheap and not worth $5.00 at all. I went by the dollar store and found the exact same brand/ same item at my dollar storeURGHis all I can say. I thought when I was buying these that they would be more durable and strong; nope, very cheap and broke when used.

I bought these for a catered BBQ party. They were not strong enough to use for adults with their sides, meats, etc. Several snapped. I had to pull out other silverware. I have since used these for my toddler and other kids and they seem to be perfect for the smaller hands.

Jamie Oliver 4-Inch Paring Knife

Jamie Oliver 4-Inch Paring KnifeI bought this knife as a budget replacement, but are impressed with the overall quality and feel of the knife I will most likely buy the other sizes too great product for the price!

Feels so good in the hand. Isn't a knife that is uncomfortabe to use worthless, no matter how sharp? This is indeed a bargain. And sharp out of the box. I do not have a dishwasher so the "rusting" issues mentioned in other reviews will be no issue. If you want to read some more balanced reviews about Jamie Oliver knives go to the UK Amazon site (where they are more commonly available) and read the reviews. After using this knife just one day, I ordered the 6" version. Probably the paring knife I will use most often, I have 8 paring knives of 6 brands.

Weston 83-7001-W Processing Knife Set, 10-Piece

Weston 83-7001-W Processing Knife Set, 10-PieceAfter my husband picked out and bought this item, the first time he used it one of the pieces broke. Have not got any complaints from him about any of the other parts of it but it was scissor looking piece that didn't make it through the first use.

Ordered this for my husband... it came as described BUT he used the saw for two seconds and it broke... it is made very cheap... so if you need this for the saw I would consider another option, but the rest of it is good :)

Vera Wang by Wedgwood With Love Cake Knife and Server

Vera Wang by Wedgwood With Love Cake Knife and ServerI found this knife and server set at Dillard's a few years ago while helping my friend register. I almost bought them for myself then. (Not even being anywhere near engaged!) I fell in love with their sleek, simple design. When you hold them, it is obvious they are a good quality set. I am saving them to cut cake at my wedding, but unlike other cutsey heart and ribbon adorned servers, their usefulness will not end there. They are a two pieces I know I will be proud to bring out again and again to serve cake and pie at birthdays and holidays for many years to come!

The Vera Wang With Love cake server and knife is elegant. The set designed as a wedding accessory is cleanly designed and appears to have good weight and quality of materials. The Vera Wang set can serve for many years for other special occasions beyond the wedding.

It's heavy and doesn't feel cheap. It's sturdy I guess is another way to put it. It feels like a quality product. I think this is a very nice gift for a new couple. I couldn't find anything on the website about requesting engraving to be performed before shipping so I took it to the Mall and had it done, but the product itself is good. I'm very pleased with it and happy to give it to my daughter and her new husband.

OXO Good Grips 2-Piece Peeler/Parer Set

OXO Good Grips 2-Piece Peeler/Parer SetI am consistently amazed at the high quality and low price of all the OXO kitchen products. Though I like heftier knives, this peeler is the best. The only caveat is that it takes a little getting used to the "direction of peel" towards you, but once you do get used to it (a couple of carrots should suffice) you'll never go back to the classic at your mother's house.

I bought this set when I first moved into my apartment, as I've been a fan of the Good Grips products for a while now. This set is absolutely indespensible, as I use these tools almost every day.

Peeler: This is wonderful for peeling potatoes, as the easy-to-grip handle and swivel blade help you to comfortably maneuver around bumpy and slippery surfaces.

Knife: Since purchasing the set 4 months ago, my knife has stayed incredibly sharp and is able to cut through everything from crunchy carrots to smooshy tomatoes.

Here's why the set didn't get the "5" rating: The pair should be hand washed and *not* put in the dishwasher. The knife got a tad rusty after running it through a cycle. Note: This was easy to correct with a Brillo pad and a little elbow grease.

However, I don't think you should let this "diswasher drama" sway you from purchasing this set, as the benefits *far* outweigh the limitations.

Buy OXO Good Grips 2-Piece Peeler/Parer Set Now

The paring knife has proved quite good, but I cannot find strong enough terms to express my disappointment in the peeler. I can't understand all the recommendations. It requires an undue amount of pressure to peel at all, digs chunks out of the vegetable and doesn't peel smoothly. It feels as though I've used a rather dull knife instead of a highly recommended kitchen tool. Even my small crew of teenage peelers have opted to use our old one from the grocery store. It has no curved edge to remove eyes and although the handle is very comfortable, it is otherwise useless.

Hi! I bought this set soon after I began having problems with my hands about four years ago. I thank my lucky stars that I did! I later discovered I had rheumatoid arthritis, so these kitchen tools have been a Godsend. The peeler especially has made it possible for me to be able to cook many things I had simply given up on previously. I had experienced so much pain before due to peelers which required too much force to use, partly due to dull blades and rigid blade formats. This peeler is so sharp, and is so clever with its freely swiveling motion, that it peels smoothly and swiftly; if anything, one almost has to pay attention not to remove too much when peeling because it *is* so effortless! The paring knife is splendid also. For me, with my arthritis, the handles on both tools are really beautifully designed, and enable me to cook even on some of my worst days. I always handwash my utensils and have never had any problems with rust, as some reviewers have mentioned, and both utensils have remained very sharp all these years. These were the first OXO tools I bought, and I was so enamored that I have since bought more. I would probably buy the whole OXO line if I were rich enough! I am pleased that somebody thought of people with arthritis --and good design in general --at long last.

I have had numerous peelers and all of them would hurt my hand after peeling a few potatoes. Not anymore because I bought an OXO Good Grip. This is hands down the best peeler I've ever owned. I can now peel a whole bag of potatoes without pain in my hands. I would recommend this brand to anyone.

"jo!e", Wine Art Cheese Knife

'jo!e', Wine Art Cheese Knife"jo!e", Wine Art Cheese Knife.

This knife has a 4 inch stainless steel blade, and an attracive and apparently hand molded 3 1/4 inch handle. The handle is a little short for anyone with large hands, but the heavily serrated blade would put most steak knives to shame. It must be designed for cutting some very hard cheeses! This knife is best suited to be used on a stoneware plate or a cutting board with a ceramic tile cutting surface. It would saw grooves in a wooden cutting board and mix a little sawdust in with your cheese. Sounds yummy....if your guests happen to be carpenter ants or termites.... (-;

Forschner / Victorinox Paring Knife, 3 1/4 in Straight, Small, Black Nylon Handle Model 40600

Forschner / Victorinox Paring Knife, 3 1/4 in Straight, Small, Black Nylon Handle Model 40600I bought this knife because Cook's Illustrated, which is very reliable, rated it as the best paring knife they tested -even though paring knives can be had for over $100. They had also top rated the Forschner 8" chef's knife, after comparing it with forged knives costing many times as much. For those who watch their PBS television show, they really do use the Forschner knives.

My experience with the paring knife has been very favorable. Although it's small and rather nondescript in appearance, I've used it to remove the silverskin from both beef and pork tenderloins far more efficiently than with any other knife I own, including a forged blade from a manufacturer with an excellent reputation and a high price. The stamped blade is easy to maneuver, and seems exceptionally sharp.

While the small handle might be a problem for people with large hands, the high quality of this knife, combined with its low price, make it worth trying for just about every home cook. Beyond that, if it's damaged, unlike the high priced paring knives that it competes with, it can be replaced without any feelings of angst. This is an exceptionally good knife at a remarkably low price.

This little knife is easy to use, very sharp and stays sharp longer than most and sharpens very well

This knife is pretty average. I had high hopes that it would be as stellar as the 8" chef's knife by Forschner, but it's very light and a little on the flimsy side. I've gone back to my Cutco paring knife that's 10 years old.

This is a small, very sharp paring knife that's easy to use.

Because it's small, and the handle is narrow and light weight, the applications are limited to small and relatively soft items. The flexible blade is good for boning small items like individual pieces of chicken; it's also handy for working on jobs requiring a small blade such as coring strawberries.

I wouldn't recommend it when a stiffer blade is needed such as for cutting hard, or even semi-hard cheeses.

This little paring knife recommended by ATK, does not disappoint. Fits nicely in the hand; thin, supple blade. Excellent price. Companion to the Chef's knife by the same maker--also a wonderful knife at a reasonable price.

J.A. Henckels 8-Slot Steak Knife Block

J.A. Henckels 8-Slot Steak Knife BlockI bought this to hold our knives at work, (cutting vegetables to get out seeds) so I wasn't looking for something fancy or super expensive. I ordered this knife block to use with the ZX Kitchen Steak Knives. The slots in the knife block were way to small for the knives. Therefore I returned the knife block. Extremely well built and heavy-duty. Once a technique is developed would work better. Experiment with various butters and temperatures for proper results.

This is a heavy duty butter curler quite elegant and beautifully constructed. However I have not used it so cannot tell if it is curling butter properly. No question about it, though, just looking at it, and holding the weight, I was very impressed. The design is outstanding. Quality!! Birchware Compostable Wooden Forks 100/pcs.

Birchware Compostable Wooden Forks 100/pcs.After reading some of the other reviews I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about these but as soon as I started using them I was quite impressed. The size is small, more like a dessert fork, but I've successfully used these daily for a couple of weeks to eat everything from spinach (cooked) to potatoes to rice to pasta. They're probably not the best for salads or other things you need to really stab as the tines are relatively short. They hold up extremely well in very hot foods and have a very sturdy feel. They do have a woody taste (similar to the little wood things that come with Hood ice cream cups) if they get very wet, but you quickly become accustomed to it and it isn't overpowering. Plus, they come in packages of 100, while similar products are only available in bulk and where does one really have the room or inclination to store 1,000 forks anyway? I would certainly recommend these as a nice alternative to plastic.

Update: I've had to take away one star and rate these a four as I've had several forks from the middle of the package with splinters and have had to throw away at least four or five so far for fear of a splinter in my tongue. The others have been fine though.

We love this cutlery and use it regularly for family picnics and outdoor dining. Children find them easy to use and we can drop them in the compost bin afterward. No washing up and we can eat anywhere without the guilt of using plastic disposables. They're suitable for main course and desserts.

These forks definitely did the trick at our wedding reception picnic. But they fell apart pretty easily. If you are planning on using them, don't bite too hard or try to tear at a steak! The knives from the same manufacturer held up a little better, but overall I'd recommend using these for lighter foods.

Aloha, I received my order of the birchware forks, knives, and spoons and love the look of the wood. My only concern is that the forks are way too small too be used as dinner forks... maybe for dessert. Where can I get larger birchware forks?

Yeah, so they are like popsicle sticks with four little prongs at the end. Okay for adults I suppose, but you have to watch out for all the splinters. If children are involved at least a few will be heard screaming for their mother with wood and blood sticking out of their mouth. Seriously, cant these be sanded any better? I suppose its the price you pay for being eco friendly, Better the kids though than your in-laws.

Kyocera Revolution Paring and Santoku Knife Set

Kyocera Revolution Series Paring and Santoku Knife Set, White BladeThese knives took a little getting used to at first. They just have a different "feel" than my high-end steel knives. At first I thought I might cut myself but you get used to them quickly. It's almost spooky how easily they glide through food. You can make tomato slices so thin you can almost see through them! They are almost all I use I'll wash and re-use my ceramic knives before going to the rack for a steel one. My only problem is my wife and squabble over who gets them when we are cooking together...

I have one of these and I must admit that they are heaven to cut with. Really, you have never used a sharper knife I can assure you. The blade is VERY brittle. no matter how careful you are you will chip and nick the blade. I must admit that even though my blade is chipped like crazy, after a year of use, this knife is still sharper than anything thing I have used. I have to maintain the edge on my Henckel Pro-s knives on a regular basis. At their best they are not as sharp as this damaged knife.

Buy Kyocera Revolution Paring and Santoku Knife Set Now

(See my ONE YEAR UPDATE at the bottom of this review.)

First let me make it clear I do not own THESE ceramic knives, but I own some that are similar. I am writing this to help people to understand ceramic knives better. After looking around, I bought the Tachi three knife set (with black blades), mostly because I wanted more than 2 knives. I am not disappointed. In fact, these knives have become my preferred knives for almost everything.

Ceramic Knives are an up and coming thing, but they have advantages and disadvantages. I also bought some Stafford Worldwide Ceramic Paring Knives and I compared all of these very closely to the Kyocera Ceramic Knives, and I find them to be fairly similar. The Tachi knives are sharper than the cheaper Stafford Worldwide knives, but the Stafford knives are still quite sharp.

Advantages of Ceramic Knives:

1. They retain their sharpness for many years, far longer than any steel knife.

2. They are quite inert and do not rust or react to food and chemicals.

3. The blade, at least, can withstand very high temperatures, up to 1,400 Degrees F., and it doesn't hurt the blade. Whether the handle can withstand these temperatures is another matter.

4. The blades are lighter weight than steel.

5. Because of their lack of reactivity, these knives clean up fast and easily.

Disadvantages:

1. Though the blades are sharp and retain their sharpness, I cannot say they are sharper than steel blades. Certainly razor blades are sharper, as are surgical scalpels. A good, sharp carbon steel blade would also be sharper, so don't get confused or expect too much. The advantage is not that they are super sharp, but that they are quite sharp and they RETAIN their sharpness. A carbon steel knife will stay sharp for about a day of hard use. Stainless steel knives will stay sharp for weeks to months. These knives will stay sharp for years.

2. The blades are not STRONG. They are made out of Zirconium, the same thing that is in Cubic Zirconium, and Cubic Zirconium is a very hard substance, second only to Diamonds. But they lack the crystalline structure of the Cubic Zirconium. On a molecular level they are instead an amorphous ceramic, almost like glass, and though they don't dull easily, they will break VERY easily if put under any kind of twisting motion, side to side motion, or similar bending stress, or if they are struck against a hard object such as stone or bone. They also might break if dropped on a tile or cement floor.

I strongly recommend you ONLY use it to cut on plastic or wooden surfaces. Vegetables and boneless meat are the premier uses for these knives. Buy yourself a nice counter top butcher block knife holder to keep these knives in, and always hand wash the knives and put them back into the block. Don't leave them in the sink where they might get broken by heavy kettles or plates being placed on them.

Having said all of the above, if you want a sharp knife that will stay sharp and last for many years with proper care, then this certainly is something with which you could be happy. These actually are now the sharpest knives in my drawer, including sharper than several (older) sets of Cutco knives. I rate it four stars ONLY because of the general lack of toughness that ALL ceramic knives have, NOT because of any inherent defect in this product.

-----------------------------------------

ONE YEAR UPDATE. I have now (as of April 23, 2011) had my ceramic knives for over a year. They seem 'almost' as sharp as ever (probably 90 to 95% as sharp as they were at the beginning). However, despite excellent care, washing by hand, and NEVER using them to cut against bone or hard materials, my knives have developed some small nicks and 'divots' in the cutting edges. This is especially prominent in the largest knife. I have no idea how these nicks and divots occurred. I think they are just something that you need to expect with these knives. The 'defects' are quite small and seem to have minimal effect on the sharpness and cutting ability, but there is no question that they are there. Just be aware that this probably something you just need to expect with these knives. Sharp they are, but 'strong' they are not.

My assistant at the Inn, trained in culinary school in Paris, told me about these ceramic knives. I have a wonderful namebrand set of steel knives that she ribbed me about not being very sharp and that ceramic knives were better. I was curious, so ordered these to find out if they are as sharp and easy to use as she said. And now I can say first hand, that they are! I love cutting tomato slices that thin! Still need my steel knives for boned meat and bread cutting, but so glad that I ordered these for the fruits and veggies that we use so much of at the Inn.
